Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Cover Model Revealed On 'Late Show With David Letterman' (VIDEO)

Who Won The Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Cover?

Once again, "Late Show" (Weeknights, 11:35 p.m. EST on CBS) had the honor of revealing the model honored to be on the cover of this year's Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue -- so what if the news actually broke earlier in the day? It's one of the most sought after issues of any magazine in any given year, and about as high profile a spot any model could hope for.

Before he announced the winner, David Letterman tried to rile up the ladies waiting in the holding room for the big reveal. Of the ten models there, only Irina Shayk knew the excitement of seeing herself up on that billboard. But while she was as nervous as the rest of the women, none of them took Letterman's bait.

"When the winner is announced, will you all act like you're happy, but really be steamed?" he asked them. A few nodded honestly, but in reality when the reveal happened, the other nine women applauded and looked genuinely happy ... or maybe they were all acting.

The honor for 2012 went to American model Kate Upton. The 19-year old was featured last year as the "Rookie of the Year," behind Shayk's cover. She quickly rose to the top of the pack, claiming the cover at such a young age. It's just the latest honor in a short career that has already seen Upton as the face of Guess and making commercial appearances and even her acting debut in the film "Tower Heist."

Upton's 2012 Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue hits stores this week, while "Late Show" continues weeknights at 11:35 p.m. EST on CBS.
