A burglar posing as a flower delivery man allegedly robbed a Miami woman at gunpoint on Valentine's Day.

The man reportedly knocked on the door of Scheryl Garcia's home on SW 59th and Flagler Avenues, holding flowers and chocolates.

"He rushed inside with a gun, demanded money, possibly jewelry, and he was only in the home for about 30 seconds and was able to leave with those items," said Miami Police spokesperson Sgt. Freddie Cruz.

Garcia hid with her baby while the suspect was inside her house, the police report. No one was injured.

"You can only imagine she's very shaken up," Cruz told Channel 10. "I can imagine that this Valentine's Day and all others will be quite hectic for her."

Residents in the neighborhood told WSVN7 that are usually very wary of opening their doors to strangers, but that they too might have fallen for the thief's hoax.

"It's Valentine's Day. Why wouldn't you open the door to someone who wanted to sell flowers, everyone wants flowers," said one neighbor.

Police say the suspect is a white or Latin male in his 30s, approximately 6 feet tall, who was wearing a white shirt and a green hat.

Cruz told CBS Miami, "There’s a lesson to be learned. … If you do get a delivery at your home, just confirm before you open your door, confirm that it is in fact an employee of that company.”
