Bill Cunningham Hit By SUV, Thankfully Escapes Injury

Legendary New York street style photographer Bill Cunningham was reportedly hit by a car yesterday. Oy vey!

Fashionista reports that the Times photog was shooting outside the Reed Krakoff show during Fashion Week on Wednesday when he was hit by an SUV, presumably while riding his famous bicycle.

Luckily, Bill, who is in his EARLY 80's, managed to escape injury and keep shooting. In case you had any doubts, we now have evidence that he's indestructible.

Cunningham has of course been busy at New York Fashion Week, capturing the glitterati for his famous spreads in the New York Times, which he's been shooting for a whopping 30+ years.

We're obviously huge Bill Cunningham fans (we're in good company), and we're so glad Bill is okay.

Click over to Fashionista to read more, and watch the trailer for the 2011 documentary "Bill Cunningham New York" below to learn more about Bill, if you haven't seen it yet. (Um, go see it!)

For a minute, I thought maybe the right-wing talk show goof Bill Cunningham got hit by an SUV. I am very disappointed to find out it was a good Bill Cunningham that got injured.

I wish him well.

Glad he's okay. Saw "Bill Cunningham; New York" last year and loved it. What a great life he has.

Bill Cunningham is a national treasure. I am far more moved by this man's passion for his art than a host of others and their interpretations of what they deem artistic.

I find street photography to be intensely humanistic. I'm inspired by Cunningham, the Magnum group, and the recently discovered Vivian Maier.

What a stupidly written article. And, what's with the "oy vey" ? Glad he's ok.

Oy vey? Isn't Cunningham an Irish name? Good research.

And besides, he doesn't say "Oy Vey", he says "Mah-velous!"

if you're taking pictures of a car and it keeps getting bigger and you are not using a zoom lens you might want to move

Glad he's okay. Bill Cunningham is one of the nicest people in the industry although I always thought that he was taking a lot of risks riding around NYC on his bike.

I can't imagine the Style section of The New York Times without the brilliant street-smart photos taken by this beloved gentleman who operates from a bicycle. He pedals to all the important fashion shows, hobnobs with the great couturiers, editors, publicists and fashionistas of every stripe. He could have a seat at the table of the rich and famous, yet this simple man would rather dine contentedly on a peanut butter and jelly sandwich when he can have foie gras and caviar with the best of them. His photos are what is important to him. All the rest is just nonsense. If you live in New York City, you can catch him as he whizzes by on his bike, or watch him as he snaps the weird and the wonderul on the corner of 57th and Fifth. What a guy! A New York icon in a worn out windbreaker atop a rickety bike. I hope he'll be OK.
