Trump 'Doesn't Get' Santorum Surge

Donald Trump continued to stump for Mitt Romney Thursday morning on 'Today,' attacking Santorum for his devastating 2006 Senate reelection race.

"He lost his election in Pennsylvania running as a sitting senator -- by 19 points," Trump said, according to the National Journal. "So the people that knew him best turned him out and let him go locally."

After Trump endorsed Romney earlier this month, Santorum reacted with sarcasm.

"I can't imagine Donald Trump being hypocritical," he said. "That would be totally out of character for Donald Trump."

Trump has previously managed his expectations for a Romney victory, and he said on 'Today' that he's confused why Romney's not "catching on."

"I don’t get it," he said. "I don’t see why he's not catching on better."

Recent polls show Romney and Santorum neck and neck, though that may change after the Michigan and Arizona primaries on February 28.
