When Claire and Phil went out with Mitchell and Cam, the couples concocted a brilliant idea on "Modern Family" (Wed.,, 9 p.m. EST on ABC). Unfortunately, it was also a decision made when all four of them were deep into their wine drinking for the night. The bright lights and clear minds of the following morning left most of them reconsidering.
While Cam and Mitchell are continuing to wait for a possible new baby, a couple of their friends are already enjoying their new baby. They went the route of a surrogate and a "swirl" of their DNA so theoretically no one would know which was the biological father. Unfortunately, it was painfully obvious to anyone with eyes.
So drunk Claire came up with an idea so that the baby could be both Cam and Mitchell. If she donated an egg, that could represent the Mitchell part of the equation. Then Cam could be the father. Only the next morning, Claire was horrified at what she'd agreed to, and the more everyone thought about it -- except Cam -- the worse and more unnatural an idea it seemed.
Once Jay and the rest of the family caught wind of it, the sentiment that this was an ill-conceived idea was echoed. It also sparked a huge argument, spurring Mitchell and Claire to hide out under the table, where they confessed to one another they didn't want to do it anymore. Mitchell and Cam will just have to continue waiting for their next baby, or enjoy what they see of themselves in Lily as she grows.
