Know Your Presidential Foods (QUIZ)

George Washington

First Posted: 02/16/2012 9:36 am Updated: 02/16/2012 3:46 pm

At Kitchen Daily we're making a food holiday out of Presidents' Day! Formally observed as Washington's Birthday, it's no longer just a holiday from school or the office, or a reason to buy a car on sale -- it's a day to commemorate our presidents' relationship to food.

These presidents' food idiosyncrasies are almost more interesting than their politics. For example, one president had a particular love for nuts. Another always special ordered his favorite dairy product. And we all know about Obama's love for pie.

So we're honoring the presidents by remembering their favorite foods and eating habits. We've narrowed it down to 10 questions -- test your knowledge now! Take the quiz below.

Bill Clenton's was a trick question. When he was president, he was a burger and fries guy.

Imagine for a moment you had access to 24 hour personal chefs who would make virtually anything for you. It amazes me that Bush and Obama didn't put on weight.

But both of them worked out on a semi regular basis and had wives that kept them in check when it came to food in the WH.

I'm surprised they didn't have Bush Sr. infamous "broccoli ban" on it.

Sure, Bill just loves munching on those celery sticks. More tofu, I can hear him say.

Sometimes, celery is just celery.

Ol' Pat Robertson must not have never done any research on Thomas Jefferson because according to him; mac & cheese is a "Black thing".

"must not have ever" - I know how sensitive some people are about grammar, so I'll save you the trouble by catching it myself.

I am in no way defending Robertson, but it is a staple in soul food. Now it is a hip thing. Every trendy restaurant has a 8,000 calorie mac and cheese on their menu. It is like collard greens are considered a black thing, but it is a southern thing.

8,000 calories, eh? That's bad news. Really bad news.

Doesn't seem fair to have the clock running while your screen is frozen waiting for the dang ads to download.

I wonder if they got that right about FDR serving hot dogs in the White House specifically. It is well-documented that when foreign dignitaries like the British royals visited his home in Hyde Park, he would have hot dog picnics, but that seems more like a 'weekend in the country' sort of menu.
05:39 AM on 02/21/2012
No, he actually served them to the King and Queen of England, during their first official visit, on either the White House or in the Rose Garden (not looking it up now, must go to work).
05:48 PM on 02/20/2012
I had seen photos of President Franklin D. Roosevelt tooling around in a Ford V-8 roadster in order to talk to farmers during the Great Depression (1930-1940). Another photo showed him serving sandwiches and potato salad to staff members on the White House lawn. So serving hot dogs would be right in line. But he owned an estate and was very well to do. He was a very popular president who served four terms (1932 to 1945).

If this was a food quiz, why is it that one of the ten questions total had to do with Ronald Reagan's penchant for candy? No wonder this country has an obesity epidemic!

O good grief, a little candy doesn't hurt anyone. Chill and have a jelly bean.

Sounds like they mistook jelly beans for suppositories!
