Santorum's Yearbook Shows Liberal Facial Hair

Republican presidential hopeful Rick Santorum is fast becoming known not just for his conservative stances, but also for his conservative style. His sweater vests have become so ubiquitous that the campaign has started selling them.

Before the sweater vest became a meme, The Atlantic dug up Santorum's old high school yearbook photo from 1976, calling it "tragic." The magazine went on to compare him to McLovin, the uber-nerd from Superbad. It fit.

But there was a period when Santorum didn't resemble a computer-camp reject or animated Sears ad, when he actually let his hair down. According to a 2005 Philadelphia City Paper story, the future politician wasn't so rigid during his undergrad years at Penn State University. "He had Republican values," U.S. Rep. Tom Feeney told the paper. "But it's not like he was running around leading conservative jihads or anything."
