Republicans: Obama's Budget Proposal Will Put America On 'A Roadmap To Greece'

The Huffington Post   Posted: 02/18/2012 3:04 pm

In the GOP's weekly address, House Republican Conference Vice-Chairwoman Cathy McMorris Rodgers (R-Wash.) blasted Obama for his recent budget proposal, saying it would put America on "a roadmap to Greece."

"If we keep on going like this, the consequences will be devastating," McMorris Rodgers said on Saturday. "The president's budget isn't a blueprint for America; it's a road map to Greece."

"President Obama's broken promises have left our country broke," she continued.

The proposal has received harsh reviews from Congressional Republicans, including House Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio), who called the plan "a gloomy reflection of his failed policies of the past." After the budget proposal's release, HuffPost's Sam Stein reported on the mixed response:

President Barack Obama's Fiscal Year 2013 budget isn't inherently unique or surprising. It sticks to the same objectives that the White House has pursued for months: short-term investments in job growth, combined with a mix of long-term spending cuts and revenue raisers to achieve a decent amount of deficit reduction.

Yet many have responded to the proposal with a great deal of alarm. The reaction has been decidedly political on both sides, with the White House making a major bet that the country is tired of austerity measures and Republicans jumping to brand the president as a paradigm of fiscal irresponsibility.

Here's the roadmap to Greece:

1 - Infiltrate via CIA and instigate the public against unions and "socialism".
2 - Destabilize the country's economy.
3 - Assist the military in orchestrating right-wing military coup in order to "halt the spread of soviet-style communism" which hasn't been a threat since 1948.
4 - When the people finally get tired after years of brutal authoritarian right-wing  Read More...

I wonder why the Government should get the lion share of this country's wealth.
Trillions were spent in the last three years. I thought Bush'es financial mess was in the billions , not trillions
Where did all this money go? Any waste reported, by the way?

All its ever been is these 2 old political parties and usually the same political figures in office decade after decade. If the Republicans had done such a great job managing the economy in the past, wouldn't it have been more memorable? It really began under the Reagan recession of the 80s. And given a kick in the rear by Clinton signing NAFTA.

Four Deformations of the Apocalypse

By DAVID STOCKMAN

"IF there were such a thing as Chapter 11 for politicians, the Republican push to extend the unaffordable Bush tax cuts would amount to a bankruptcy filing.

The nation’s public debt — if honestly reckoned to include municipal bonds and the $7 trillion of new deficits baked into the cake through 2015 — will soon reach $18 trillion. That’s a Greece-scale 120 percent of gross domestic product, and fairly screams out for austerity and sacrifice. It is therefore unseemly for the Senate minority leader, Mitch McConnell, to insist that the nation’s wealthiest taxpayers be spared even a three-percentage-point rate increase.

More fundamentally, Mr. McConnell’s stand puts the lie to the Republican pretense that its new monetarist and supply-side doctrines are rooted in its traditional financial philosophy."

Fyi...Stockman is a REAGAN republican

10 BIG QUESTIONS FOR CONSERVATIVE REPUBLICANS!

IF YOU ARE GENUINELY CONCERNED ABOUT THE NATIONAL DEBT, WHY DO YOU NOT SUPPORT A TAX INCREASE FOR THE WEALTHIEST MEMBERS OF OUR SOCIETY?

At a time when 2/3 of the country, a landslide-sized majority, approve such an action, why is it that you have refused to even consider ANY tax increases at all?

Also, why do you insist that balancing the budget be done overwhelmingly on the backs of the poor and elderly through cuts to Medicare and Medicaid instead?

After all, the wealthy have enjoyed massive tax savings for the past 11 years and have failed to reinvest in this country. Why should they not be the first ones called upon to sacrifice, rather than being allowed to skate by freely?

Now THATS rich.
Republicans left a debt to GDP ratio that is WORSE than Greece. The ONLY difference is the US can print its own currency.

"Cathy McMorris Rodgers (R-Wash.) blasted Obama for his recent budget proposal, saying it would put America on "a roadmap to Greece."

She is so wrong, The republican administrations since Reagan have successfully already put us there. Just look at the accumulation of national debt under the different administrations:
http://zfacts.com/p/318.html
As for President Obama's policies; if one performs an analysis of the policies that he is responsible for it shows that his policies to date will contribute about $2T to the national debt over his two terms. This opposed to GW whose policies contributed over $5T plus the accumulating interest. The one largest spending spree was his famous tax cuts for the wealthy that were not paid for.

The Democrats are slowly putting the house in order after years of failed republican leadership.

She is 100% right, and Obama knows it,he has said the same thing, but he doesn't care,he will spend and give everyone he thinks will vote for him something. On the countrys credit card. Like anyone in debt eventualy it catces up with you, Just think if you could print money, you to would feal invincible like Obama does now, when these politicians say things like "Its only 20 billion" about a certain program, you know were in trouble,ONLY 20 BILLION ,the country is doomed

The easy solution is to make people pay their fair share and use both cuts and taxes to aid the debt.
We can not cut our selves out of this mess, we have had nothing but unfunded wars and other programs for the last 11 years. Clinton solved the budget problem in 1993 with cuts and tax increases that got thru the Senate with Gore breaking a 50/50 tie along with cuts

You would have to be delusional to be a republican these days... They crash the world economy  - then AFTER crashing the world economy with their trickle-down economics, corporate and financial deregulation, MASSIVE tax cuts for the wealthy, and unbalanced trade deals.. They have the audacity to Blame the guy who has been left to sweep up the mess.

It' wouldn't be so bad except they haven't learned a thing.. The Core Party Economic Belief is STILL Exactly that which crashed the world economy... One presidential nominee - his "Tax Plan" is to cut his taxes to Zero Percent - While pushing the burdens of that Tax break on those who simply cannot afford it..

This is Republicanism.. A Multi-Multi-Millionaire should pay Zero taxes... While Poor People are Taxed to the Hilt or left to Pick up the costs of those tax cuts with more economic burdens.

On a State Level?... In Arizona - Under Republican Autonomy - 518 Million in tax breaks for businesses... But Not one penny budgeted to save lives of poor people who needed a transplant. 2 out of 3 corporations do not pay State taxes in Arizona, while Republicans jacked up Sales tax to second highest in the United States - Telling the voters this is necessary to Specifically pay for education - then - after they increased taxes - they cut education in favor of paying for tax breaks for rich corporations.

They even tried to raise state income taxes on poor people - not to pay for services that the poor need. But To Directly use that excess increase in tax revenue to pay for MORE Tax breaks for Rich people. All Republicans Voted for It - whole the few Democrats in power in AZ voted against it.

Republicans are For less taxes - but only for the wealthy.. The republicans are for Freedom - But only when it keeps them in power - otherwise they legislate oppression. And their Economic Policies.. Continuous and Utter Insanity.

??? ...

Like I say ...These People ..Are Utterly Delusional.

IF Republicans want to reduce the deficit they need to raise taxes on the top 1%. How simple is that.

During Eisenhower Administration the top tax bracket was 91%
During Nixon Administration the top tax bracket was 74%

These REPUBLICAN Presidents had high taxes on the rich.

Why? To Pay for WW2, Korean War, and Viet Nam.

Bush lowered taxes and started two wars, (didn't even catch Osama Bin Laden) spent TRILLIONS ON HALLIBURTON AND THEIR SUBSIDIARIES to provide services to the troops, and borrowed money to pay for it all.

THIS IS WHY WE HAVE A HUGE DEFICIT. In addition to the above Bush also added more deregulation to Reagans deregulations, and we got the HOUSING /MORTGAGE CRISIS and the stock market tanked.

Now the Stock Market is up to pre-crash numbers.

"the last time a republican cared about me I was a fetus." LOL! Yes, Sir & praise the Lord! Finally someone speaks the TRUTH!
Sad thing is, since they've been trying to cut WIC, the food program for pregnant women & toddlers, they no longer truly care about the fetuses these days! They act like they do, by saying that babies have the right to be BORN, but then they're trying to starve them to DEATH both in & out of eutero.

What should a person say in their micro-bio
09:42 AM on 02/20/2012
Republicans are delusional. The United States has been on the road to Greece every since the repeal of Glass Steagall in 1999. GW Bush cut and spent the United States into oblivion and the the bottom fell out during his Administration. Obama took over and instituted a tepid approach that was misapplied to the massive problems this nation still confronts. What we are witnessing is the ineptitude of the Baby Boomer generation when it comes to managing the public and private sectors of the United States.

They cannot do it. Their ethos of self absorption - short term gain and obsession with burning through all of the resources and accumulated wealth that the US has produced is about to upend the entire nation.

Gee I thought republicans had done that and our President Obama is changing the course, slowly but surely.
09:29 AM on 02/20/2012
So the story is just that she said it, not that she is making a good case for it? It's interesting how in a effort to be fair to both parties the media is instead aiding the right in their campaign of misinformation.

He had complete control of both houses, for 2 years. There could be no obstruction, which is why things are so bad. Only with the election in 2010 did the economy start to turn around. The only saving grace is that the groups that so foolishly support him will bear the brunt of his damage. Even the poor are becoming poorer.
