Amy Poehler Returns To 'Weekend Update' For 'Really?!?' With Seth Meyers On Birth Control (VIDEO)

Really Seth And Amy Birth Control

Amy Poehler got back to her "Weekend Update" roots on "Saturday Night Live" this weekend when she joined former co-host Seth Meyers for a "Really?!?" segment on birth control.

The instigator (but by no means the only issue covered) was last week's one-sided congressional committee on birth control that included no women. Poehler's best dig came after discussing conservative supporter Foster Freiss' now-infamous comment on the issue involving Bayer aspirin being used as contraception. He since apologized, but Amy wasn't having it:

"Well, we'd love to accept your apology, Foster, but you made a mistake -- and now you're going to have to live with that mistake for the rest of your life."

Virginia's latest anti-abortion measures were also on Seth and Amy's "Really?!?" list, including a bill calling for transvaginal ultrasounds to be given before abortions (Amy points out that Transvaginal sounds like a REALLY awesome airline) and another calling for a law saying that life begins at conception.

"What's next?" Meyers asked. "Life begins at last call?"

Watch Seth and Amy's full takedown of these recent women's issues in the clip above.

Nothing should surprise any of us, but I find it beyond words and description that we are discussing the accessibility and availability of birth control in a country which is supposed to be based upon freedom and freedom of religion, which means that we don't have to have religious values which coincide with those who are attempting to impose this upon all of us.  What greater freedom should be  Read More...

Great minds think alike. I was just thinking AP should go onto SNL and do a REALLY?! segment about the gawdawful reasoning skills some are having in defending Rush Limbaugh.

Why not we all close this topic with a statement "OK, life begins when the man swallows that blue pill" that is covered by all major Insurance plans and Medicare Advantage plans!

This is my favorite clip next only to 2008 Bush endorsement of John McCain. I keep playing these two with my morning coffee. It brings my blood circulation back to day time levels!

I am glad that we have these Republican religious loonies that will keep late night comedies and talk shows flourishing until the next election! My only regret, Palin not in the GOP field. OMG, can you join in now, it is not too late.

Somebody still thinks SNL is funny? Really?
12:22 AM on 02/23/2012
Good! SNL reaches many people...so more now know about medically unnecessary probes that legislators want to stick up women's bodies when they are already sad, nervous, and stressed out.(=transvaginal ultrasound), as well as the other state-level attacks on the availability of abortion. Sometimes this state level stuff doesn't get well covered in the national media. Abortion rights and access for women, state by state since the 2010 midterms have gone down the tubes. These laws are unconstitutional as per Roe v Wade and they were designed in part to challange Roe if they are disputed at the state level...the right wingers want Roe challanged with this conservative Supreme Court.

That was hilarious! Leave it to SNL to come up with truthful satire on a very serious subject affecting this country. Hope our elected officials take note, but that is doubtful. They don't have the brains they were born with, (must have been all those drugs early in life) or they would see the nonsense in their actions. Insurance pays for the "little blue pill." but won't pay for birthcontrol. Just what we need, a few more million illegitimate kids for the taxpayers to take care of from birth to the penal system, til death. Really, we don't have enough drain on the ecomomy already, we need to add billions more??? Really, really, really?!!!!

The world isn't over populated?!! What planet are YOU living on? Uranus? The SNL skit was hilarious and very TRUE. Better take note Redi, to move to the moon when the food supply and jobs run out for the 7 BILLION people already on this planet!! And YOU think we need more. Can you read? Or don't you deal in reality. It's people like you that have screwed this planet up with your procreation BS. You are living in a fantasy world of the past if you believe that. This is 2012, not 1512. This world is dying and being drained of resources from all the OVER population. Time to return to earth, uranus is deluding you.
10:43 AM on 02/22/2012
Wow, someone is condescending. So I haven't even explained my point and yet and now I'm living on "Uranus", a "fantasy world", I'm illiterate, and people like me are screwing over the planet. Cool. So much for civil debate.

Anyway, you've bought into the Malthusian crisis, ie one day there'll be too many people in the world for our resources to support. This has been the question literally every single time the population has expanded going back to the 19th century. And guess what, we HAVE been able to support the world with our resources. Contrary to what you believe, we do indeed have enough food to feed the world. However, politics get in the way and people still starve.

Secondly, according to the UN, the population will rise to around 9 billion in the next 50 years, then suddenly drop. So in over 50 years, we will be back to 7 billion people. This is not good, because we won't have enough young-middle age people to support the old.

Thirdly, more people means more human achievement. More human achievement means more achievement in science and art among other things. Just look at the quality of life boom during the 20th century, coinciding directly in the population boom.

Redi is right, there is no over population.I think the problem is all the wars, if there was a more peaceful approach resources would be available to all. America wants to run around the world starting pre-emptive war and helping arab springs, I say leave them to themselves, its they're country and they;re war. But when many countries in Africa asked for help from America we gave none, when allk they wanted to do was survive and live.Ever hear of Manute Bol and him asking for help at the UN in NY

Birth control (including contraceptive education) helps prevent abortions (and far more efficiently than legislation that attempts to preclude people's personal choices does).
