Animal Photos Of The Week

First Posted: 02/19/2012 1:59 pm Updated: 02/19/2012 1:59 pm

There was no shortage of animal mischief this week.

A monkey at the Memphis Zoo was quite jealous of a tall human this week and attempted quite an acrobatic attack.

A nine-year-old Hawaiian monk seal was flown from the Midway Islands to a temporary home at the Waikiki Aquarium in Hawaii this week. The aggressive seal, known as KE18, has killed two other Hawaiian monk seals and wounded at least 11. Hawaiian monk seals are the "most endangered marine mammal in the United States," according to the Associated Press, and officials had planned to euthanize KE18 for "his propensity for nudging his own species toward extinction."

Other animals are a little more well-behaved. This unique photograph from a zoo near London appears to be catch an otter in the middle of prayer.

This week marked the 136th Westminster dog show in New York City. Click here for some of the best images from the show.

Sadly, it was revealed this week that poachers have killed over 200 elephants at a national park in Cameroon over the past four weeks.

Officials in Zimbabwe have arrested four Chinese nationals for killing and eating endangered tortoises. According to the Associated Press, the group admitted to killing 40 Bell's hinged tortoises.

Below, Check out some of the wildest, coolest and cutest animal pictures taken around the world this week.

the pic with the piglet giving the pug a hug, reminds of that incessive song I had to endure when my kid was on her computer playing a webkins game . all I heard over and over was ,hug a pug, hug a pug. got so annoying after awhile and just when I was about to forget it, here I see a pug getting a hug, and the memory came right back.

We were a group of college students and friends up from Ohio for a week at Cypress Lake campground. Three of us hiked over the rocks toward Georgian Bay. As we climbed down from the crest, we were suddenly confronted by two large black animals, which we at first took to be a pair of young black bears. They were, of course, Newfoundland puppies on their first excursion to the Bay, to begin working-dog training. Friendly as one could wish, still, they gave us a good fright. ;-)
