The Daily Beast:

Frequently seen but rarely heard, Callista Gingrich made her first solo campaign appearance in her husband's home state of Georgia on Saturday, dipping a toe into the sometimes rough waters of life as a public-campaign wife.

to joe1964 (I have no idea what happened to our initial thread)

I don't necessarily stand against serial marrying. I think once people put in an earnest, consistent effort over a number of years to achieve a marriage, they have the right to decide to give up. I recognize that the courts no longer require that earnest effort when couples file to divorce.

I think here with Callista and Newt we see something much more profound than serial marrying. We see two people that could care less about the institution of marriage in their pursuit of a long term affair that resulted in a new marriage. Why should we trust their current opinion on marriage when they disregard the institution before now? What is different now than then? Or in Newt's case, what is different this last wife than the two previous wives?

I don't think as a general rule that divorce and infidelity disqualifies a person from serving the public in office. I do think in Newt's case that his constant self interested changes in policy reflects his personal behavior and vice versa. He doesn't deserve the public's trust because he was abusing his office as Speaker. The House Ethics Committee only cited him on specific charges. If you read through those information gathering documents, you see he is just a slimy irresponsible, horrific rudderless leader.

We as a society have learned to accept serial marriage and infidelity as par for the course in today's world regardless of morality.

In response to joe1964 (I have no idea what happened to our initial thread)
I know that Clinton was impeached by Republican excess. My point is the only reason most of us are upset with Newt is for sheer audacity and rank hypocrisy.

Gennifer Flowers was with Bill Clinton for 12 years outside his marriage with Hillary Clinton. I voted for him twice after I knew where his personal moral compass was. I was even upset that the Republicans came after him for engaging in behavior he was already known for.

I have read these comments for schadenfreude, not because I think the abhorrent behavior is so much worse than the initial infidelity. We have gotten on our moral high horse and decided this woman (waxen, mannequin, or any other derogatory name some of us have used in reference to her) should bare the brunt of our disgust with Newt. Just because she married the cad, doesn't make her the git who left his former wives on the worst days of their lives.

I generally don't like drama for drama sake, but this thread (read across a few days in between other activities) has made me laugh and cringe for its condemnation. She cheated. She won her so-called prize. Now she has been branded with her scarlet lettered A when her feckless husband condemns everyone else.

It is lop-sided critics. Why should she bear her letter alone?

I hope Newt becomes the front runner again..... You can ask Micheele Obama, Santorums wife or Romney's wife the following question with no problems...... But if you ask Callisita all the repubs wil get mad and say its a shameful question.

"So Mrs. Gingrich, can you tell us about how you met Newt and your courtship?"

It seems Mrs Gingrich, the pretty-young-looking lady, has done the same you've done -the difference, you are not public as she is. You, she, and I are full of shame, whether you want to accept it or not -it's a matter of humility!

Wax Museum's hairspray lady does not look like a First Lady to me. She wouldn't have time to redecorate the People's House before she starts seducing foreign Presidents and telling THEM she's going to take them to the White House as well.

Do not confuse attempting to win with winning...........Newt is sinking like the proverbial Tiffany diamond in water. Calista might just be winning over columnists in Huffpost.

Who hates this women? What hate? She was a mistress who snuck around and bedded a married guy for 8 years. Then he did marry her. OK. And what.

Great story to share with peopel though.

"I met Newt when he was still married, I was easy so he took a likinbg to me and would let me stay nights in DC with him. I kept quite when he called his wife on the phone and was a perfect and understanding misstres. We then decided to get married"

Since when is the truth, hate? this is who you want for first lady.
