Drunk Man At Disney's California Adventure Park Gets Pepper-Sprayed After Acting Belligerent (VIDEO, NSFW, UPDATE)

A Disney dream turned into a nightmare for park guests when they had to help restrain an out-of-control man.

A YouTube video uploaded on Saturday opens with a man being restrained by two bellhops from the "Tower of Terror" ride in Disney's California Adventure theme park, notes LAist.

An elderly security guard then pepper sprays him in the face, and the man throws a punch in response. Park guests step in to throw the belligerent man to the ground and help restrain him until more security arrives.

While it's not yet known what led to the fight, hecklers' comments during the film give clues that the man may have been a vulgar nuisance for some time before the pepper spray was used.

One guest shouts, "You didn't wind up being so tough anymore, huh?"

Another laughs, "I think this guy's been drinking vodka!"

It takes about 3 minutes before more security staffers arrive as backup.

A woman can be heard in the background, screaming, "There are kids here. Does this guy not get that? You're in Disneyland!"

The "Tower of Terror" ride is located next to "Francis' Ladybug Boogie" and "Tuck and Roll's Drive 'Em Buggies," attractions aimed at small children.

UPDATE: 53-year-old Glenn Horlacher was arrested on charges of battery and assault by the Anaheim police that Saturday afternoon. He was released on a citation later that day.

The police had been called to the park to assist Disney's security personnel. Upon arriving, they found Horlacher being subdued by several park guests, reports the Los Angeles Times.

Suzi Brown, a spokeswoman for Disneyland, released this statement to CBS2/KCAL9:

Our security cast member was taken to a local hospital where he was treated for the injuries he sustained and then released. We appreciate the actions of the guests who came to his aid during this uncharacteristic incident.

This only happens with people on booze.
Never happens with people on marijuana.
Why is booze legal and not pot?

Stop pushing your agenda, you shouldn't act like this if your drunk or not. He's obviously a man with issues, he's an angry violent person.

I didn't know he was drinking. Can you show me in the article?

So, once again, we only see the video from the point when the security decides to take action.  We don't know what this guy had done prior to this which garnered the pepper spray.  I doubt he was just standing there with a buzz on.  He clearly was acting in a way that was improper to other park goers.  if there is any place for zero tolerance of adults acting improperly, Disneyland would be the place.

Please don't be one of those who sees the video of something that doesn't include what the individual did to garner security/police reaction and then make judgments of over-reaction from the security.

The only reason this is news is because it's Disneyland. I was at the park the day with my kids this happened and saw the security guards--it was really not that big of a deal. And as far as the kids being present goes, I consider it a perfect teachable moment to talk to kids about why excessive alcohol consumption is a really bad idea.

Did anyone check the guy's blood sugar levels? Sounds like he may have been a diabetic - problems with blood sugar mimic drunkeness. How would he get drunk at Disney? They do not serve alcohol and they search your bags when you enter. Diabetics die every year in police cells b/c the cops think they are drunk when they really need insulin.

They serve alcohol at the California Adventure park.

Insulin? You mean dextrose right? Hyperglycemia would be little more sedate longer onset and takes long time to actually die (days). Hypo on the other hand is a quick crash, far more likely to see the grumpy drunk in an obtunded diabetic low than high. Those that value their license get a bg on ALL their altered pt's to cya. For the record our field glucometers are absolutely unreliable in the presence of maltodextrin's and our findings are confirmed by labs post arrival at ED. Many places that don't have access to urine dip or venous blood sample equipment give oral glucose paste as part of their aloc protocol because it won't hurt a high bg pt but will save a pt who is low. I'm sure you meant to say dextrose or glucose right? I'd hate to think you wasted all that money on a RN lic. Separately, folks get hammered and high in the magic kingdom all the time. Those check points are a joke and only there as a token show of security.

There must be something in the water in AZ.

first of all the three kids standing there mocking him didn't help the situation and the screaming Harpy yelling "there are kids here" wasn't either. If you want a drunken idiot to comply and stop acting the way he was that isn't the way to do it. You can't sit there and mock an inebriated individual and expect them to calm down. They should've just listened to the guy with the pepper spray (esentially he was security) and helped him in whatever way he asked.

Seriously, it's time.

Indeed, but it's difficult to tell the difference between a mouthy drunk and a brainless rent-a-cop with a tin of mace. The best place for everyone's kids was to be quietly moved out of range of either.

It's been a 'rude' morning for me, so maybe that adds to my response. But for those that are railing against "excessive force;" I'm so tired of the idiots in our society. An elderly security guard?? No problem...empty the can!! He isn't going to exactly get merit pay for wrestling with a 53 year old power drinking adolescent.

Pepper spray him all the way to the hospital also! Just for the inconvenience and nuisance of it all. There was no reason to pepper spray him so much? There was no reason to drink that much.

I too, am a 'bad drunk.' It doesn't mean I don't completely avoid alcohol, I just know when I've reached my limit and stop. Self-discipline is a wonderful thing.

...plus I don't want to get pepper-sprayed or beat down with a nightstick.
09:17 AM on 02/21/2012
They should have handcuffed the drunk guy inside the drop zone of the ride & let him go up & down until he worked all those inhibitions off..
09:12 AM on 02/21/2012
Dear to all,
Base to the clip, I didn't see anything was wrong of the man who said drunk. He didn't act anything to harm nobody, but the whit shirt guy keep on spay to him when he stand undefense. Ghost, this is a big law suit and I don't blame for it. And people arround seem didn't care for the man . What is American??!!

Good job Glenn, you made your mamma proud that day in Disneyland where you ruined it for everyone else and smashed any hopes of wonderful childhood memories for all of the families who had to witness your drunken stupidy!
