'Community': NBC Sets Midseason Return Premiere Date, Rejiggers Schedule

Community Return Date

First Posted: 02/21/2012 3:54 pm Updated: 02/21/2012 4:17 pm

"Community" is back on NBC's schedule! The fan-favorite comedy is returning on Thurs., March 15 to its old 8 p.m. EST timeslot according to series creator Dan Harmon who tweeted the news.

NBC benched "Community" when they announced their midseason schedule back in November, replacing it with "30 Rock." While in the 8 p.m. EST timeslot, "30 Rock" pulled in series low numbers, with Nielsen ratings in the low 3 million area, proving it wasn't a "Community" problem, it's a larger timeslot problem. But "Community" will happily take that timeslot back.

Dan Harmon
What you call 8:00, we call home. Community returns to Thursday nights on March 15th.

With "Community's" return, "30 Rock" will move to 8:30 p.m. EST while "Parks and Recreation" will take a five-week break. "Parks" will return on Thurs., April 19 at 9:30 p.m. EST, replacing "Up All Night" after its first season has finished airing.

According to HitFix, back-to-back episodes of Amanda Peet's new sitcom "Bent" will air Wednesdays at 9 p.m. EST and 9:30 p.m. EST starting March 21. "Rock Center with Brian Williams" moves to 10 p.m. starting March 7, but it will return to 9 p.m. EST on April 11. "Law & Order: SVU" will take a five-week break and return with new episodes on Wed., April 11 at 10 p.m. EST.

"Betty White's Off Their Rockers" and "Best Friends Forever" will take the 8 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. EST Wednesday timeslots, respectively, starting April 4. "Whitney" and "Are You There, Chelsea" end their seasons on March 28.

"We are happy to have an unprecedented amount of original content on NBC this spring," Bob Greenblatt, chairman of NBC Entertainment, said in a statement. "'Bent,' 'Best Friends Forever' and 'Betty White's Off Their Rockers' are welcome additions to the Wednesday schedule, and we know that the loyal fans of 'Community' will be pleased with its return to its home on Thursdays at 8:00 p.m."

Dear Community,

You are one of the those shows that I enjoyed watching, but for some reason or another, never got serious about. It's not that you're not good enough, you're really funny. And your ensemble cast isn't at all contrived. But adults don't often have enough time to squander watching tv at night. Unfortunately, I don't think I have time to devote to another series. I have a lot going on, and you're just going to have to respect that.

P.S. That one night with the back to back episodes was amazing!

You know maybe one of the reasons network tv is losing so many viewers is the horrible way they treat them. It used to be a show would come on and run for 22-24 episodes before going into reruns for the season. Now they show one or two new episodes, then stick in a few weeks of reruns, then maybe, a few new episodes, then more reruns all the time moving shows around to different time slots.

I KNOW! ABC was showing re-runs of Modern Family & The Middle three weeks AFTER they first showed! RIDICULOUS!

What I cannot understand is when did this become acceptable?

Now, if ABC would move 'Cougar Town' BACK to Wednesday and get rid of the AWFUL 'Happy Endings', all will be right in TV land. Oh - and if NBC will take off whatever is on at 10 on Thursdays and KEEP 'Parks & Rec' on and bring back "Outsourced" it would be even better.

Sadly, the 8pm timeslot conflicts with "Inspector Spacetime" over on PBS ... decisions, decisions.

Oh for God's sake. Do you have any idea what "jigger" means when used as a verb? It means to interfere with, manipulate, or alter, especially TO GET SOMETHING DONE ILLEGALLY OR UNETHICALLY.

I think the word you are looking for is "rejuggle."

{Sheesh}

Jigger means to manipulate - which is a proper use of the word jigger. They have mainpulated, changed and/or altered the schedule. SHEESH! Rejigger means to do it again. (Which they seem to do a LOT at NBC.)

I know that the denotation is to manipulate, but it's the connotation that's off -- jigger versus juggle. "Juggle" by itself dosn't intrinsically suggest impropriety (unless you are juggling the books, of course). Juggling a schedule lacks the shady overtones of jiggling a schedule... unless the headline writer knows something we don't... in which case it's entirely correct. {grin}

Yeah, I hate program schedules that are set in tissue paper. Even good shows can never gain a following if you can't even find them. Doesn't seem like a very good business practice if the object is to gain viewers.

I miss the days when a new show was 26 weeks, everything started in the fall, and you got out your pen and the fall preview issue of TV Guide to plan what you were going to watch when you got your homework done. But then again, there were no DVRs and you had to wait until summer reruns if you missed an episode.

I think NBC has no respect for its audience. HOW and WHY is Parks N Recreation still on the the air? That show is not funny. The blonde is horrible. I'm not sure about UP All Night. It has a good cast but the writing is weak. Its almost not even a comedy.

Parks and Rec also appeals to a more erudite audience. Yes, it's funny. With well written, well defined characters in absurd situations. It's awesome. Amy Poheler (the blonde) is wonderful.

Do you work for the Network or know someone on the show? Parks & Rec is the worst comedy (Not including House Of Payne or any other Tyler Perry based comedy) on tv.

Stick to Big Bang Theory chief. More your speed.

it upsets and depresses me that an original and extremely well-written show like, "community" continues to struggle for viewership against the humourless, repetitive, exhausting, formulaic and vomit-inducing sitcom known as, "the big bang theory".

clearly, the idiot masses need to be reminded of what should be digested as funny, (HAHAHAHA!!!), touching, (AHHHWWW!) or risque, (WOOOOOOOOOH!!!). if the nielsen ratings do nothing else, they remind me that i live in a society of nitwits and mouth-breathing stupnagles.

Agreed. Without the laugh track, fans of Big Bang, Two and Half Men or any CBS comedy do not know when to chuckle. Community is so much better in every way, i.e. writing, cast, innovative, etc.
