Jon Stewart Rips Congress' All-Male Birth Control Panel (VIDEO)

Jon Stewart continued his coverage of the great birth control debate in Washington on Monday night's "Daily Show," this time taking on Thursday's House Oversight Committee hearing that included almost no women.

It's safe to say that Stewart took issue with Republican Chairman Darrell Issa's all-male panel at the hearing. Not only were no women allowed to speak in support of birth control coverage, but the men who spoke against it used such hyperboles as "soul rape" and an allusion to Joseph Stalin to fuel their argument.

"I mean, no one loves their insurance plan, but soul rape?" Stewart asked.

He also pointed out that the Catholic church already provides insurance plans which cover Viagra for men: "Does that rape the soul?"

After taking on more outlandish statements on religion, women's rights and birth control (you can watch the full clip above), Stewart turned to his own (nearly) all-male panel of contraception experts in a new segment called, "Jon Stewart's Eye On The Ladies." We'll let you decide if his panel is more or less balanced than the one our government put together.

The Bible also allows slavery, but the U.S. has a law against that. Is the church exempt? (I mean actual slavery, not the mental kind churches already practice.)

Thursday's House Oversight Committee hearing that included almost no women.

worst sausage fest ever... perhaps the women should take a page and wear fake mustaches, not that the GOP will notice anything...

The so called Christian GOP consevitives condem the Muslim religion because they deny women there rights then pull stunts like this. GOP consevitive phony Christian men telling women they must abide by there rules. The catholic church defends and protects child molestors then claim they hold the moral high ground. Say what??

Even if the panel was convened to talk only about religious freedom, its still a wonder that no women were invited. Don't women have anything to contribute to the conversation? Or is it understood that women are merely the subject of religious doctrines and, as such, can have nothing to say on the topic?

There is IMHO a huge disconnect between comparing ED medication and birth control. First of all, the reason this is a big deal is that Catholic programs are being asked to pay for a program which to them a sin. I personally do not have issues with contraceptive, specifically within marriage, or for 'other' non-child bearing related reasons. To be forced to support or pay for an insurance plan that Guarantees contraceptives is forcing someone (Catholic institutions) against their moral inclinations and I feel that is wrong.
That pork comment was poorly stated, but it did make sense...

It goes against everything I think is right to have more added to my doctor bill's, hospital bill's. ins. premiums and taxes to pay for ins. for the people that feel they should get for free.

I don't ever get the flu, so I don't think it's right that I have to pay for you to get the flu shot.

Some Liberal Democrats think Jon Stewart is smart. Well a liberal would think so.

anybody with a sense of humor regardless of political view should be able to recognize smart humor.
Just like I can tell that the Republican candidates are really funny, OK, not smart, perhaps you have a point

Could someone explain the Elijah Wood thing?
12:03 AM on 02/23/2012
Tried watching again... Passover Seder, according to wiki, is a Jewish Ritual, and as Wood is not Jewish, but commonly mistaken for one, such a move by Obama would be a gaffe...I guess
