12 Recipes That Make The Most Of Frozen Peas

First Posted: 02/21/2012 10:40 am   Updated: 02/21/2012 10:40 am

Everyone's got a bag or box of frozen peas in the freezer. They're a mainstay not just for treating bruises and black eyes, but they're also great to have on hand for adding to recipes for a burst of spring flavor. You can make a great pea soup or side dish of minted peas using frozen peas without having to wait until spring to enjoy their flavor.

Many people assume that frozen vegetables are terrible -- that they lack flavor and nutrients -- but the exact opposite is true. Frozen vegetables are flash frozen soon after picking, ensuring they keep all their nutrients, color and fresh flavor. They're just as good as fresh, especially when your market doesn't have the fresh produce available.

The following recipes are all brightened up by the addition of peas. Try a pasta dish with pancetta and peas, or shrimp scampi with peas. Make meatballs with peas in the sauce or try a side dish of rice or couscous with peas. If you don't already keep a package of peas in your freezer, you will after seeing all these recipe possibilites.

What do you like to make out of frozen peas? Leave a comment.

This version of the classic shrimp scampi uses frozen peas to add bursts of sweet flavor. Angel hair pasta picks up the thin white wine sauce. Parsley and lemon zest add even more bright flavor.

Note to moderators,,,, why did you remove the comment from opiniongirl18 to me? I loved her response and I wrote an answer to her, and, next thing I know, it said the statement I had just replied to had been removed. I cannot imagine why that statement of hers was removed. I thought it was friendly and nice and she was sharing nice info about herself and thanking me. :(

Yes, usually I use rice with the frozen pea and shrimp, but, occasionally, I combine pasta with peas and parmesan, too.

Favorite comfort food, rigatoni pasta with peas, a little butter and parmesan/romano cheese. I also put them in curry, actually curry is a good way to get all kinds of vegetables into your family, I put some eggplant in it yesterday, very good.

It makes me laugh at this reference that "people just use frozen peas for something cold for bruises"!
I have ALWAYS loved them....Saute some fresh mushrooms in butter and add peas to serve....delicious! They make a bowl of ramen noodles somewhat healthy if you sprinkle some on that bowl that is usually too hot to eat when you are starving.

All you have to do is add pea's to testosterone and growth hormone. Workout with free weights and do cardio three day's a week. You will be in the best shape of your life within three weeks. See, green pea's can do wonders.

Here is something really easy. Make Hamburger Helper with one package of Zacky 7% ground turkey (1.25 pounds) instead of ground beef. Add frozen peas at the end and cook for a couple of minutes until the peas as thawed out. So good!

Adding peas to any dish is reason enough to throw the whole thing out and go to a fast food joint to eat.
All the good vegetables are made by companies like Hersheys, Reeses, York and the products of the Mars Candy Company
