Sadie Frost Apologizes For Daughter's Fashion Week Dress (PHOTOS)

The Huffington Post   First Posted: 02/21/2012 2:28 pm Updated: 02/21/2012 2:56 pm

Sadie Frost and her 12-year-old daughter, Iris, had a fun mother-daughter day out in London, attending Tuesday's Vivienne Westwood runway show. But Frost, BFF to Kate Moss and ex-wife to Jude Law, ended the day by apologizing fans who were scandalized by Iris' outfit choice.

Iris sat front row with her mum, smiling at her first-ever fashion show, wearing what seemed to be an innocent, candy heart-printed dress. But as the Telegraph pointed out, the little hearts on the frock were filled with phrases such as "Blow Me," "Drink Poison," "Eat Shit" and "Choke."

While at the show, Sadie focused on the fashion, telling reporters about Iris, "She's 12 and got very, very into fashion... and I think she's very excited to be here as well." But she addressed critics later in the evening, tweeting:

i assumed it was just the sayings the sweets have on them. I'm sorry for any upset it may have caused..Iris is a sweet , innocent girl.

we were enjoying a day out with my mum me @ iris and it was a lovey day.I guess the dress should be hidden till she's older..#genuinemistake

But only some fans and followers needed mollifying. Plenty responded with support, tweeting "complete storm in a teacup. I feel for you. x" and "oh for gods sake, kids like what they like! Sick of this country being so "P.C"! She's a child, let her have some imagination!!"

Edgy and fashion week appropriate. Of course it's not for school, but I think it's hilarious.

Have any of you seen what Madonna's child has worn in public? This dress is pretty tame compared to what Madonna and Lourdes have worn out together!

No, that is not a dress for a child.

Come to think of it, isnt his the same woman whose kid was hospitalised after swallowing an E tablet dropped on the floor after a house party?

Maybe she simply doesnt do supervision.

Who doesnt scrutinise gifts given to their kids?

Who doesnt scrutinize their kids clothes when accompanying them out of the house?

Who doesnt take extra care when taking their kid to a *fashion show* where there will be *cameras*

Ridiculous.

This story goes far beyond just a silly dress. It's just one more way for people to criticize women and girls over what they're wearing by being the Fashion Police that's never done to boys and men. We've got to stop trying to control others. There's enough insecurity in the world without trying to force everyone to wear what someone else doesn't like who didn't buy the clothes and aren't wearing them.

I have some tennis shoes that my dog chewed up royally. When I can I'll buy new ones. One of them is wrapped at the toe with black electrical tape and I still wear the shoes outside. I'm not Cinderella going to a grand Ball. If someone walked up to me and made a comment how tacky my sneakers are I'd say fine. Wanna buy me a new pair of sneakers? The reaction would be a scowl. Battered though they are, if it's easier to slip into these tennis shoes, electrical tape or not, I'll do it. I don't care what people think, therefore it's annoying that people think this dress is up to others for scrutiny when there are more important things to gripe about.

A grown woman and a 12 year old girl are not the same.

No, it's the same thing, Sunflo. We have to teach girls NOT to give a crap what others think of how they dress or how they look, so when they're grown, they don't run their lives/change their lives depending on what outsiders think. Obviously everyone who criticizes this kid's dress were taught that looks are everything, therefore they think they're experts at deciding what someone else should wear based on their tastes. As a kid I never gave a crap what people thought of what I wore. As an adult I have the same attitude.

What this 12-year-old is wearing is fine. She doesn't have a problem with it, but outsider adults try to make a non problem a problem.

The dress is clearly made for a child and not an adult. If her mother didn't have a problem with it why should anyone else?
01:24 PM on 02/22/2012
Why on God's green earth would anyone put this dress on their daughter? I'm so confused.

The comments on this site are making me want to have a daughter so I can buy her that dress.

Everyone's blaming the mother. I don't know about anyone else, but I look at the things I wear. I'm sure the girl knew she was wearing a dress like that long before she left her house.

I agree with you pcxStarhawk. It is just simply mean (actually appalling) to put such language on a 12 year old. Because surely the parent explained the definitions for the stunning language.
