Has Obama waged a war on religion?

Republican presidential hopefuls from Rick Santorum to Newt Gingrich to Mitt Romney have declared that Obama is hostile to religion, citing examples varying from the administration's take on the "ministerial exception" in a recent Supreme Court case to Obama's recent insurance contraception mandate.

Sarah Posner of Religion Dispatches, Michael Livingston of the National Council of Churches and John Garvey of the Catholic University of America discuss.

There is no war on religion. Obama is upholding the Constitution of the United States of America. We are a secular society and some in the religious commmunity continually attempt to expand their religiion beyond their own lives. What if now, there was an expansion on banning eating pork in America because those of the Jewish Faith felt it necessary because of their beliefs. Ironically, many of those that  Read More...

Obama is a Christian. If he wasn't he could not be president in this country. The atheists are where the gays were 30 years ago politically. First we have a black president and then a gay one and then an atheist. I would like to see a black, gay, atheist become president in this country. Then I would know for sure that we had an intelligent, open minded, and worldly population.

It is laughable that people who claim to worship a deity that created the universe, supposedly all powerful, are afraid that this deity is under attack. How do you attack something that is all powerful ?
Plus, Obama has shown that he is a believer in this supposedly all powerful entity.
Now, just because he doesn't suck up to the foaming at the mouth religious zealots of the far right, he is somehow attacking religion. He is showing intelligence, which terrifies them, intelligence is their greatest enemy.

This is another diversionary tactic by the right in this country and nothing more. Like the
bogus "war on Christmas" invented by Fox to increase the number of blockhead viewers
who become unhinged at the thought that someone might question the fantasy world they
live in.

One has to wonder why Christians are so insecure. If they believe they're going to live
forever (a disquieting thought, for sure) then why really care about what others might think
or do. How do they not expect to be ridiculed when they persist in seeking to legislate
what they think is morality? Especially when that "morality" is so demeaning to women. Or
homosexuals. Or to anyone not wishing to live in the Dark Ages, or times of inquisitions.
This government of this country was never founded on Christianity and it hopefully will remain free of religious restrictions. If the religious right is serious about installing a theocratic regime they should study the existing ones in this world, like Iran or Saudi Arabia.

It's not a Controversy, it's the truth and no matter how many phony photo ops obama minions take, it won't change that reality. The obama regime and the poodle press denoigrate Christianity on a regular basis while endorsing islam.

THE ECONOMY HAS TO BE IMPROVING AS THE REPUBLICANS HAVE NOW SHIFTED TO MORAL POLICYS. IN THE LAST 10 YEARS MAYBE 10 LAWS WERE PASSED CONCERNING WOMENS HEALTH AND BIRTH CONTROL, SINCE 2010, WHEN THE REPUBLICANS TOOK OVER, WE HAVE HAD OVER 45 LAWS PASSED IN THE HOUSE CONCERNING A WOMANS UTERUS.
