Romeo Santos: 'Bachata King' Partners With Voto Latino (VIDEO)

Singer Romeo Santos is looking to do more for the Hispanic community than serenade them with his soulful Bachata songs.

This election season, he's using his esteem to get out the Latino vote.

The 30-year-old Bronx-born artist spoke to Soledad O'Brien on CNN this morning about his partnership with Voto Latino, a non-partisan organization co-founded by Rosario Dawson. During Santos' nationwide tour, Voto Latino will be on location at each of his concerts to register voters.

"As an artist, a lot of people look at me like a role model," Santos told O'Brien. "I can encourage my young fans, the majority of my young fans and Latinos, to vote."

Santos released his first solo album Formula Vol. 1 in November, and has been a regular on the Billboard Latin Songs chart since "Promise," Santos' collaboration with Usher, climbed to the top in December.

Voto Latino is pairing with Santos in order to register more Latinos who are eligible to vote and encourage them to vote on Election Day.

The Pew Hispanic Center estimates that 21.7 million Hispanics are eligible to vote in the upcoming election. Yet, that doesn't mean that all will show up en masse to vote.

In the 2008 presidential election, Latinos represented a mere 9 percent of the electorate. Although more than 6.6 million Latinos voted in the 2010 midterm elections according to a Pew report, the minority encompassed fewer than 7 percent of voters.
