Ron Paul On Rick Santorum: 'He's Fake' (VIDEO)

The Huffington Post   First Posted: 02/22/2012 8:16 pm Updated: 02/22/2012 9:14 pm

Ron Paul didn't shy from an attack ad he is currently running against Rick Santorum that dubs the former senator from Pennsylvania "fake."

Why did he say it?

"Because he's fake," Paul said.

He then added an equally nuanced analysis. "I think his record's so bad as a politician."

Santorum responded by reciting high grades he'd gotten from conservative groups. "I got a hero award," Santorum said.

Paul was unimpressed by the awards and ratings, noting that they come in comparison to a staggeringly unpopular Congress. "You can't just go by the ratings," said Paul.

Santorum defended his votes in favor of Social Security by noting that his elderly constituents needed the income. "All my rich seniors moved to Florida and Arizona," he said, raising the question of whether poor seniors would have carried less weight with him if the rich seniors hadn't left the state.

Santorum said that as president, he wouldn't be held back by the leash that is the moderate Pennsylvania. "Imagine now as president of the United States, with a Tea Party movement and a riled up Republican base," how much he could accomplish, he said.

Before Santorum had finished speaking, Paul's campaign had blasted out a press release noting the many votes Santorum had cast in favor of government spending.

so much wasted energy.. we are no longer a democracy.. those who seek national office don't have our best interests at heart.. those who fund their campaigns don't have our best interests at heart.. we're on our own.. and the only thing standing between our government's march into fascism is our ability to stand united against it.. but here we are.. arguing red vs blue.. mine vs yours.. old vs young.. black vs white.. distracted, distant, and divided..

it's late, and i know this will fall primarily on deaf ears.. because psychologically, you all have too much invested in false promises and inexplicable allegiances to risk jeopardizing your illusions for reality - but hear this.. you're being lied to.. you're irrelevant.. you're slaves.. you're anger is being deflected to one another..

god bless what was once a wonderful dream.. god bless america

People tend to stop reading when you refer to the US as a Democracy, its not that it falls on deft ears, it that it is unintelligible. If you start with an untruth how can anything else you say be worth hearing. This is to berate you a tiny bit, but in fact, people don't care till it effects them. We were never a Democracy, nothing in our system is supposed to look like a Democracy. A Democracy is mob rule, the 51% taking the rights away from the 49%. As a Constitution Republic who seems to export Democracy(not sure why we do that), yes we are losing touch with what made us great"The Constitution" before all the crap was added. There is no right or left, only Government.
InSantorum is very disingenuous and will make the government Church rule if elected, like the PA judge did to the Atheist.
The media will try and make all of them look evil because they have an agenda. These are interesting times we live in.

Arguing with a "progressive" is like arguing with a Neoconservative, Both feed from their emotions rather than logic. Progressives are about as blind to the failures of their domestic policies as Neocons are to their foreign policies. The worst part is the media can tap into this emotionality with the help of constant disinfo media outlets like CNN and FOX and MSNBC. If these were honest people they wouldn't be on the air in the first place. Also their is nothing "progressive" about the consolidation of power we have had that for centuries, what we haven't had much of is freedom. Hey there's a progressive idea... freedom

ruth If you are truly a "seeker of truth" you'd educate yourself on Ron Paul, he is the ONLY candidate who differs from the others. Please begin here, thanks!

I appreciate that you want me to learn about Paul but I have been following him for years and while I admire him in some respects his utopian view is unrealistic and not something that will ever happen. Some of his ideas are just a little to way out there for me. Thanks anyway.

Last nite on Rachel Maddow, she covered Santorum's fallacies on the Dutch Healthcare System. He was using the fallacies to engage in healthcare fear-mongering here. The Dutch people are very angry about the deliberate mischaracterization of their health system. They are amazed that this can happen, such deliberate bashing of their healthcare coming from a candidate for POTUS. The Dutch reporter being interviewed refuted all charges coming from Santorum.

Couldn't agree more with Ron Paul on his judgement of Santorum. He is a world class embarrassment and quite damaging to the American people.

I'm about in the same place on the political spectrum as Rachel Maddow. I don't know how you equate my opinion on Santorum and Paul's lunacy as conservatism, but that just shows you how backwards the Ron Paul people think.

I'm fanning all Ron Paul supporters that see beyond the facade of our conman in chief. The government is out of control because criminals run it. As Thomas Jefferson, the Libertarian said, "The two enemies of the people are criminals and government, so let us tie the second down with the chains of the constitution so the second will not become the legalized version of the first."

That is all Ron Paul wants to do. Ron Paul 2012 !!

The Republican candidates are mostly rich men, I believe, and they think like rich men.
Perhaps it would be wise for them to be aware that there are many many more POOR WOMEN voters than there are RICH MEN VOTERS.

Every politician in Washington is "rich" in some form. If they didn't have the expectations of getting rich or richer, they'd never run for office in the first place. I have no illusions that they are in in for the little guy. We the people have always been at the mercy of the elected ones and will always be. It's just a matter of who's story you buy and who's the biggest bulls------. We have always taken the scraps that fall from the table that fell from a bigger agenda than we the people. Get used to it. Democracy is a wonderful idea, but it's actually a republic, which is why we all need to learn to do for ourselves and not depend on government hand outs. If you benefit from one of the politicians ideas it was purely accidental. Not a pessimist just a realist.
08:46 AM on 02/28/2012
I have never in my long life had a "government hand-out" nor do I expect to have one.
Yes, we are at the mercy of crooks like Richard Nixon and has-been actors like Saint Ronald Reagan. I disagree that getting rich or richer is the goal--they want the power and the glory--AMEN.

csmomo Ron Paul is the only candidate looking out for you and me, the Citizens! Paul would not accept pensions offered to politicians, calling them unconstitutional, when elected President he would draw the same salary as the median individual income in this country, approximately $38,300.

Ron Paul recognizes that not everybody has money to burn that's why his Plan to Restore America is so important to those who are NOT rich. He does not believe in crony capitalism and back room deals but in prosecuting lawmakers who have broken the law.

Hope you'll take the time to learn more about this humble man who seeks to serve, not dictate, to us.

Ron Paul is too old to be a viable candidate in this election. Sorry, but that is the fact. He would probably not survive a first term. His views on most issues are also antiquated and not workable in today's world. Sorry, the last geezer we had in office, Saint Ronald, let the country be practically ruined by the people who ran the Presidency (including Nancy's astrologer!).

If our values are fake, it stands to reason we would rally behind a candidate in that image.
The paradox is when a politician calls another a fake, he is usually calling attention to what is real.

Paul is the fake one. even though romney has been the front runner most of the time, paul never attacks him.
now all of a sudden, with michigan up in the air, paul goes on a full blitzkrieg against romneys competition, while again ignoring romney.
get off the stage you corrupt old tool, we don't need a fake romney shill pretending to run for president.

It's ok to not like Paul's policies, but what you just wrote is so disconnected from the political reality it only illustrates how ill-informed you are. Did you come up with that all by yourself? Say what you want about Paul, he's nobody's tool, and he's been a thorn in the side of the GOP leadership for years. You think he's a plant to get Romney elected? Ron Paul? Absurd.

The speculation is that he's doing it to gain Rand Paul serious consideration for VP. Ron Paul is more interested in advancing his message than being president. He doesn't care who executes it. And that has a better chance of happening than him becoming president.
01:05 PM on 02/25/2012
Ron Paul is first of all too OLD to assume the office of POTUS. Not only is he too old in years, his political philosophy is also seriously outdated. He is, in short, not living in today's world.
12:53 PM on 02/25/2012
I understand your anger about politicians.. But if you just talk about this clip then you have to understand that Ron Paul stated a fact about Santorums record. I think you should check out Ron Pauls videos on youtube. I think you will come to the same reason a lot of us have. That Ron Paul has it right. Check youtube.. Take care
