Yasiin Bey's 'N*****s In Poorest': Rapper Commemorates Malcolm X With Kanye West And Jay-Z (VIDEO)

Yasiin Bey

Formerly known as Mos Def, Yasiin Bey has rolled in with a remix video of Kanye West and Jay-Z's "N*****s In Paris," 'N****s In Poorest."

The track, off Bey's Top 40 Underdog series, hit last month and the video dropped on Tuesday in commemoration of the 47th anniversary of Malcolm X's death. In addition to featuring a moving Malcolm X speech clip, Bey highlights the socioeconomic crisis with political visuals and lyrics like "Poor So Hard" and "Ever winter landlord f****in' with my heat again."

This isn't the first time West and Jay-Z's Watch The Throne track has gotten the remix treatment. In a lighter spirit, a quirky mashup of Woody Allen's "Midnight In Paris" and the song was thrown together for "N****s In Paris At Midnight," which combines the original track, Owen Wilson, and literary figures who know how to break it down.

What do you think of Yasiin Bey's "N****s In Paris" Remix?

Its clear as day... One song glorifies Money, Women, and Vanity. The other represents Real Lyrics, True Hip Hop Culture, and A Conscious Mind..... Which master do you serve? Dont get caught up with no throne! If you are caught up in the line "Allah is in control" you are blind to the message anyway...this aint for you.

I see a couple of people hating on the original song but at least Kanye and Jay did not say nothing as ridiculous as Yasiin's last line.

My point still stands. As ridiculous as they were nothing compares to Yasiin's last line.

N**ger is enlightenment!!! Yahweh's Prophets and Teachers were once called N**gers.

ACTS 13:1 "Now among the called out ones at antioch there were certain prophets and teachers: Barnabas and Simeon who was called N*I*G*E*R........."

N*I*G*E*R is of latin orgin and means Black and A follower of Yahshua the anoited!! it was the American white man that turned surname into something negative.

This is amazing work by Yasiin! I'm really proud of him for doing this. I hope he does more of these with popular hits that offer little value to the black community.

My, this post has certainly brought out cornucopia of "jackwagons", although judging by some of the retorts, it's also brought out the best in many of the users I follow or will soon follow.

This is a much better incarnation of this track, although I still don't agree with Mos Def changing his name. I'm not down with all that "Mecca World Peace" jazz. {{-_-}}

When did he change his name....I'm still calling him Mos Def.

This is one of the most popular articles on the post today...and looking at the comments, i can tell why. People just wanted to argue about the usage of the "N" word (which i'm not for either. I'm not for meaningless arguing either) instead of say anything about the actual song.

Kudos to those who actually read this for the music.

Yasiin is most defiantly a grio! The tongue-n-cheek Jay Z/Kanye` midnight in Paris and the Throne versions are social commentary and both are far from the usage many commenters are referencing or complaining about not being able to post; it’s just not the same (the feminine slurs in the original slurs in the original are a different matter and universally offensive). Presenting social and political issues effectively is what pop culture does best (at times). This not ethnology; Lennon's " Woman is the _____ of the World" and a strangely thoughtful Warhol-esque Kirk on Life version of Lennon's that includes a reference to the latest GOP HOT TOPIC are worth a You Tube view

I studied Malcolm X's writings extensively in college. He was truly an amazing human being and an outstanding orator. It has always saddened me that we so proudly honor Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. (as we should), but not Malcolm X who, in my opinion, is just as deserving. Yes, he was a controversial figure. And his messages and methods were not always 'peaceful,' but he also had a devastating childhood that would harden so many of us. He was a brilliant, complex man.

The 'racial slur' used here is not intended to denigrate. Context is important. It is a very poignant video.

Those getting all up in arms about the word "n---er" are oversimplifying a complicated issue and obviously have never actually studied the hows and whys of language use (hint: start with Wittgenstein). Personally, I think either everyone should be allowed to use it in a positive manner (as Nas seemed to imply on his last album) or no one should be. However, that's just my opinion, and there are a lot of things going on in how the word is used that don't allow for simple answers. I don't necessarily buy into the idea that blacks are participating in "self-hate" by using it. I buy the argument that they are defusing the negative connotations of the word, but the only way to truly take ownership of the word is to let everyone use it and not be offended by it.

As it stands, it seems to me they promote the use of the word in a broad, general sense, but refuse to take the next responsible step and completely maim the word of its negative connotations if used by all. But, again, I'm not black, so who am I to say?

I've said this samething for a while. Either all or none. Don't chastise white people for using a word then use it constantly in your cultural media.

Say what you want. Just don't say it around a bunch a brothers. You don't want to be standing next to them when they get that slavery flashback.
