Buddy Roemer Formally Announces Third Party Bid For President (VIDEO)

The Huffington Post   Posted: 02/23/2012 2:04 pm

Former Louisiana Gov. Charles "Buddy" Roemer formally announced his third party candidacy for president today from the headquarters of Yowie, a video chat service.

News that Roemer would end his Republican bid broke Wednesday:

The 68-year-old former congressman who barely registered in polling on the GOP race said he will try to become the nominee of Americans Elect. The nonpartisan group is pushing for a third-party candidate to run against President Barack Obama and the eventual GOP nominee.

Roemer also plans to seek the nomination of the Reform Party.

Roemer served one-term as Louisiana governor from 1988 to 1992. He had built his presidential campaign on lambasting special interests in politics. He limited campaign donations to $100 and refused money from political action committees.

As a Republican, the former Louisiana governor was mostly seen as a novelty candidate for his lively Twitter feed and campaign stops like visiting Occupy DC.

Good for you Buddy Roemer! Our political system is bought and there is no real difference with both major parties. I just hope the majority of voters realize this and vote for you. You got my vote!

Verdadera,
Your name means truthful. You assume that Buddy is too. He is not.

He loves to glow in the adoration of his campaign followers, but he does not know how to govern. As a congressman he was inept. He chaired no committees and authored no significant legislation. His only accomplishment was winning at poker. Yes, he was a convincing bluffer. See page 12 at http://www.hamiltonmixon.com/Ballad.pdf
When asked recently how he would open up communication in Washington as president, he answered he "would emphasize listening and working in a bipartisan way, through poker games." Incredible!!

He was one of the worst governors in Louisiana history. He could not get along with people, put together a competent staff, or pass legislation. Look at this excellent history of Louisiana's governors, pages 259-268: Google: Louisiana Governors Cowan Buddy Roemer, often wrong
Then click on the first choice

Buddy alienated so many people in his one term as governor that he could never be elected again. He acquired a reputation for mendacity. http://www.first-draft.com/2011/09/rubberband-man.html

Even today, he is Louisiana's most UNfavorite son. A recent PPP poll rated him the most unpopular presidential candidate, with only 28% rating him favorably to 56% with a negative opinion -- a 2:1 unfavorable rating in his home state! http://www.publicpolicypolling.com/main/2012/03/santorum-leads-by-14-in-louisiana.html#more

Buddy fabricates a conspiracy theory as to why he was not invited to any debate. he claims he had 4% on national polls and they still would not let him on. The truth is that he never received even 1% on any national poll. The networks, not the Republican party set the rules that the candidates must have received only 1% at least on several national polls (as the debates went on, they increased the thresholds). He did not meet the minimum reasonable standards. If he had 4%, he would have been on all the debates.

Americans elect is exactly the big money donors that Buddy rants against. They set up a system to allow them secretly to pick their own president. They can control everything from behind the curtain. They will not pick him unless he will do their bidding. To learn about it, go to irregulartimes.com and search for Americans Elect articles.

Buddy has a history of speaking against corruption and big money influence and then making a deal to grab it when he can. In 1991 he switched from Democrat to Republican because the Republicans offered to finance his re-election campaign and help him. See this website: http://www.salon.com/2011/03/03/roemer_duke_president/
Now he is doing the same thing, selling himself out to the secret big money donors of Americans Elect so they can put him on the ballot and own a President.

He does not deserve your vote.

I agree he doesn't have a lot of support but.... his policy on campaign contributions should be heard by the masses. The GOP sure didn't want to hear it. That's why he wasn't in any "debates"/GOP dog and pony shows.

Roemer will get exactly none/zero democratic votes. He will siphon off a few percents from Romney and could even confuse quite a number of Republicans who are barely literate and would not be able to distinguish Roemer from Romney.

Buddy Roemer 2012!!!

4 Term US Congressman, Governor, went to Harvard at 16. Only guy running with an Economics Degree. Big issues are Fair Trade vs Free Trade and getting the money out of Politics. Has a good tax plan, is a moderate on Social issues.

A lot of people have not heard of him because he has a self-imposed $100 max contribution limit, so if elected, there are no big donors he has to pay back.

If 3 million people(1% of US population) give $100, that's $300 million. Add in Federal matching funds, he has a shot, especially if people somehow turn off the b00b tube and start paying attention.

I would encourage you to do some research when you have time, I think you will be impressed.

Mr. Roemer I totally feel your pain considering the "leading" candidates the "Party of No" is parading around the country in the clown bus. But shouldn't you be considering a run as a "Fourth" Party candidate? The "Party of No" could be considered "Third" Party already...

I was a Buddy Roemer donor and supporter but I have come to see that he is nothing more than an old windbag politician. His single issue for campaign finance reform is a valid cause, but that is all he has. We need a president who is able to turn the economy around. We need a president who can work with other politicians to get things done. Since I began to support him, I searched the internet and studied his past. In Congress and as governor, he did not get along with anybody. The leader of Roemer's own party in Congress nailed his personality many years ago. He said, "Buddy Roemer--often wrong, but never in doubt." He exaggerates his imagined successes, but upon a close look, you will find that he was simply ineffective and ignored. He has so little support or chance of winning that no one wants to even bother checking out the truth of his boasts. He is good for coming up with one-line zingers, like "Washington is not broken, it is bought," but where are the details showing he would make things any different?

Hmm...this information would have come in handy BEFORE you became a donor/supporter.

I do not see him as a "one issue" candidate. I been following him since June of last year and he is has stances on most major issues. His detailed stance on trade agreements, tax codes, eliminated certain federal agencies, social security, and other issues make him not a "one issue" candidate. Yes, he brings up the corruption of campaigns and Washington as a whole during his 10 minute interviews on 24 hour news channels as his most important issue. It makes perfect sense since NOTHING can change in Washington unless you fix this one issue.

The leader of his party in Congress was a Democrat and since Mr. Roemer switched parties, it makes sense he would not have favorable view of him. What has in "exaggerated" on? His experience in Congress, as a Governor, and most importantly as a CEO of a Bank, puts in on par of ANY of the other candidates. He has more executive Experience than President Obama had when he was elected in 2008.
