Jose Rosario Alvarez, LAUSD Athletic Assistant At Poly Tech High School, Arrested For Inappropriate Relationship

An athletic assistant at Poly Tech High School has been arrested for an alleged inappropriate relationship with a high school student.

Jose Rosario Alvarez, who is employed by Los Angeles Unified, is accused of having unlawful sex with a 16-year-old who goes to another school in the district.

The Los Angeles Police Department received information about the relationship on February 22 and found that the two had inappropriate contact both over the internet and in person.

Alvarez was booked for unlawful sex with a minor and is being held on $20,000 bail.

The school district has said that Alvarez will not have any more contact with students while the investigation is pending.

In response to the rash of teachers that have been arrested or reported for sexual misconduct, schools superintendent John Deasy has ordered that all reports of teacher misconduct from the past 4 years be submitted or re-submitted to the state credentialing commission, reports the Los Angeles Times.

I don't agree it should be lowered in CA where the age of consent is 18 but in fact 1/2 the States in the US have the age of consent at 16.

I have to make this comment because I have read this when a female teacher is arrested for having sex with a student, so let me put the shoe on the other foot.

Whats the big deal, a 16 year old female can decide to have sex with an adult male.

I totally agree. The scary thing is that in over 1/2 of the states in the US the age of consent is still 16.

Know why there are so many teacher/student sexual relationships? Because we are sexual beings and nothing is hornier than a teenager. If you investigated you might find that the teenagers are the ones initiating the relationship. Most of these cases have involved a teenager who is of the age of consent, and if the relationship was with anyone other than someone in a position of trust, it would be perfectly legal. Who does a teenager have most contact with? A teacher, a coach, a priest. If he/she had done this with a family member or neighbor, it wouldn't be considered a crime. I don't know why everyone finds this so outrageous. These teachers are not pedophiles. Humans are animals who are able to procreate at around age 14, and these kids are going for it. I worked at a high school for a while, and these horny kids came on to me all the time.

You have a point. Some teenagers at that age can be attracted to adults and that is normal. Difference is adults are suppose to know better.

OK, he's disgusting, but this goes on all the time in schools across America --- unfortunately. Don't feel this deserves its own headline.....but I also know if this was a 16-year-old boy and an adult female teacher, there would be a double standard, particularly from males.
