Lily Allen Defends Adele, Calls Brit Awards Interruption 'Industry Sexism'

Adele's decision to flip the bird when her acceptance speech was cut off during the Brit Awards was a perfectly appropriate reaction -- just ask Lily Allen.

"I'd rather hear Adele's acceptance speech," Allen tweeted. "I can't say I'm surprised. It was like the music industry's attitude to women played out as a metaphor."

The British pop singer wasn't the only one offended by the industry, Adele wasn't exactly happy with the people in charge.

"I was about to thank the British public for their support and they cut me off," the singer said after the show. "And I'm sorry if I offended anyone. But the suits offended me, so thank you very much for all of your support."

Adele took home awards for British Album of The Year and Best British Female Artist.

I love Adele, and I don't care who she gave the finger to. But sexism? That's a stretch. I think they would have done the same thing no matter who won.

Not that Adele NEEDS defending, lol, it's good to see the British women stick up for each other instead of stabbing each other in the back.

While I don't care for her music, I like her. However, why does she need to always be so crass & vulgar? She's such a pretty girl and she would be even more attractive if she cleaned up her mouth and quit making unlady-like gestures, it's not very becoming or necessary.

Maybe she cares more about being herself than satisfying the expectations of how others think she should be.

She absolutely has the right to act that way if she so chooses, I'm just saying that (as someone probably old enough to be her mother) She would be sooo much more attractive/alluring if she just cleaned up her act a little. She's so pretty and seems sweet, I just can't get past the uneccesary vulgarity! I really miss when females used to act like ladies! To each their own, I just find it sad, is all.

I'm really appalled by reading the term "lady like" in these comments.
Every time I see the words I want to point out that, "Your sexism is showing. Might want to hike that up a bit."

MamaGambino, I'm from the "old school", where acting like a lady and having good manners was a thing to be proud of. The same with gentlemen. Everyone has an opinion, and I'm entitled to mine, as well. I wish we could go back to the era when women acted like ladies and men conducted themselves in a manner befitting to gentlemen. What passes for manners, morals, and general good breeding in today's society is what's appalling to me.

I saw the 60 Minutes interview with her, and I'm in love with her. I've loved this type woman since Better Midler came on the scene.

Adele, maybe you should thank your public family first? Giving the supposed suits the finger doesn't bother me, but everyone knows after a certain time the "music" will play. No need to flip the bird and get upset. It had to be done - the show can't give every winner as much time as they want to talk and say thanks. You just have to come prepared. The suits aren't meanies, Adele, they're just doing their jobs. They can't give special treatment to some and not others. They simply followed protocol.

They can't give every winner extra time, but -the- winner of the top award of the night (who's already racked up a ton of accolades and top awards previously) can easily be given the time to talk. It's not like her speech went on even that long.

Why go through the "bother" of putting on these award shows and then insult the recipients by cutting them off... It's just like with anything on network TV.. they're so beholden to the Ads and commercials for their existence they always make a joke out of the segments they put on.. cooking segments are the worst.. they do a 3 minute "presentation" of how to prepare and make a dish or recipe and then speed through it so they can break for 3 minutes of commercials.. it sacrifices spontinaity and entertainment for the sake of the clock... People watch these award shows to see their fav stars and then the "suits" let everyone know who we really pay homage to...
