Vatican Requests 1,500-Year-Old Bible Held In Turkey

The Vatican has allegedly issued an official request to examine a 1,500-year-old Bible that has been held in Turkey for the past 12 years, the Hurriyet Daily News reports.

The Bible reportedly contains early teachings of Jesus Christ and is written in gold lettering on animal hide in Syriac, a dialect of Aramaic, which was the native tongue of Jesus.

According to a report by National Turk, the Bible was seized from a gang of smugglers in a Mediterranean-area operation. The report states the gang was charged with smuggling antiquities, illegal excavations, and the possession of explosives.

Today's Zaman reports that the Bible is under high security and that a Turkish daily newspaper, the Star, claims the book could be a copy of the Gospel of Barnabas -- a controversial text which some claim is an addition to the original gospels -- Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John -- that was suppressed.

In it, Jesus is said to have predicted the coming of the Prophet Muhammad.

Due to its value as a cultural and religious artifact, even photocopies of the pages could be worth between 3 and 4 million Turkish Lira, or about 1,700,000 to 2,300,000 U.S. dollars.

CORRECTION: A previous version of this article mischaracterized the status of the Gospel of Barnabas in various religious traditions. Also, the exchange value of the Turkish lira was initially miscalculated.

Yet out of all the animal sacrifices, we are pointing to one ultimate sacrifice – Jesus the Lamb of God whose blood covers our sins and even removes them totally for by grace are you saved through faith and that not of yourselves. Isn’t it fantastic? God demands good works as a result of salvation, not to obtain it! We don’t have to go to a holy city like Jerusalem, Mecca and Rome. They are too small to contain the Majesty of God! Ceremonial cleansing can wash the stain but never a heart full of sin. God is not impressed with your and my fasting and prayers. These often promote self-righteousness rather than humility and holiness. God loves you and wants to save you by His grace through your faith in the Saviour Jesus the Christ.

“For the Son of Man has come to seek and to save that which was lost.” (Luke, 9:10) The word “lost” is same as sinner since God’s words state that all have sinned and come short of the Glory of God, all of us have become the object of His concern. Jesus came seeking us particularly, when we learned that the payment for sin is death. However, the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.
The secret is revealed when we hear that John the Baptiser evaluated Jesus with his works: “Behold! The Lamb of God who will take away the sin of the world”. Peter in Acts 4:12 declared: “Neither is there salvation in any other, for there is no other name given among men whereby we must be saved.”
You will say how is that possible? By substitution He took our place. You see, first Adam fought the battle and lost. Thus, all of us: you and I are sinners. Jesus, the second Adam, fought and won, so that we can become saints instead of sinners and free children of God. The tragedy of the cross becomes the triumph of the crucified so that we can experience the forgiveness of God made available to us through repentance and faith.
Why did the ancient Jews bring sacrifices in the temple? Why even the Quran encourages sacrifices? Because without the shedding of blood there is no remission of sin. (Hebrews, 9:22)

Why did Jesus, the CHRIST, come? If he was a mere prophet, the world did not need more prophets, priests, books or miracle workers. The God of Heaven gives us the answer: “You will call his name Jesus, because He will save his people from their sins”. (Mathew, 1:21)
Jesus Christ came to save you and me from eternal death in hell to eternal life in heaven. He came to save us from darkness to light, from hate to love. He himself promised: “I have come that you may have life and have it more abundantly”.(John, 10:10)

If a criminal is brought to a judge for a crime his father committed but the judge bring his innocent son instead who never committed a crime in his life and torture and punish him to forgive the criminal, is that justice? and is that fair upon the son? And it's not even the criminal's crime, it's his father's crime and the last words of the son who was punished for a crime he didn't commit was "o father why has thy forsaken me"

It doesn't make any sense, and Whoever believes this is obviously just following vain desires and false hopes, he hopes that someone has done all the work for him and was punished for his sins, but this is not he reality, the reality Is that he will Bear his own sins on the Day of Resurrection and will come on the Day of Resurrection with having done no good deeds, even if he had done good deeds it wouldn't be accepted by God The Most Great Since He used to ascribe partners to God the Most High, the Sublim, the Almighty, and disbelieved His Guidance (the final Revelation [the Great Quran] )and the final Messenger Muhammad peace be upon him, that is the manifest lost on the Day of Resurrection, and what he presumed will failed him, that is the Great Lost.

The Christians have been brainwashed to accept this doctrine, they do not do any research nor do they ponder the words of the Qur'an. The Qur'an mentioned the stories of the Prophets the message these men came with was to worship ONE God. None spoke about associating partners in worship to God Almighty. The Christians do not think for themselves. They believe everything what the elite Jews wrote about the Prophets of Allah. When Christians speak about these Prophets you can hear the lies to their stories. They don't show any respect to these men. Only Islam shows respect to these men.

It's like God is the light and we are the darkness. The darkness cannot sustain itself in the light, so we couldn't exist with God as criminals in our state as we are today, even if we were forgiven. However, God is also 100% loving and 100% merciful. Remember when I said God is perfection, which means He is 100% just, 100% loving and 100% merciful and kind, and glorious...... The answer is Jesus. 100% loving because God loved us soo much that he humilified himself and came in the physical body of man (as Jesus was born out of the Holy Spirit of God) and gave his life for the whole humanity and paid the penalty on our behalf ( people of the past, present and future). 100% just because God paid the penalty by giving a perfect sacrifice (pure, without sin as Jesus was without sin), so that only then through Jesus in the eyes of God we also become sinless and pure and we can be unified with God.

I do not think this is a 1500 year old text. Firstly, it's bound. Bookbinding didn't spread to the middle east and then Europe until around the year AD 600 which would make this bible oldest extant example of a bound book. Secondly, it looks in pretty good shape for 1500 years old! The Middle East is dry and that helps preserve books but it just looks a bit too pristine for its age. If had to make a wild guess, I would say the text might be medieval -- maybe 1000 years old but not older. It is probably much newer than that.

Because Muhammad was Arab they didn't want to accept him. Their lineage of Prophets ended with Eesa-Jesus pbuh. Allah bless the nation of Ishmaeel pbuh (he was a prophet) with a Phrophet Muhammad he being the seal of all prophets.

Indeed, if it had not been for Muhammad (PBUH), we would not have known the true stories of the prophets as they took place. This is because their stories were distorted and corrupted before Muhammad's (PBUH) mission. The resulting versions did not respect the dignity and infallibility of the prophets. For example, the corrupt books of the Jews narrate a story of a prophet who drank alcohol and committed adultery with his own daughter; of a prophet who sent the commander of his army to war in order to ensnare the commander's wife; of a prophet who worshiped idols after marrying a pretty young idol-worshiper - they said he preferred to please her by worshiping her idol than to please his Creator. All the time you read these books you feel that you are confronting a false, confused, and misguided mentality which lies about Allah and His prophets.

If you leave the corrupt books of the Jews for those of the Christians, you will find a contrary attitude which is almost a reaction to the first. The Christians glorified their prophet Jesus (PBUH) to the degree that most of their sects call him the son of Allah. Allah is high above that!

The true image of the prophets was lost by either degrading or over-glorifying them. Were it not for the Qur'an we would not have known their true nature.

He was murdered in 200AD for his outspokenness against thePauline doctrine.Iranaeus quoted extensively from the Gospel of Barnabas in his writings.In16 centuryAD.a close friend of Pope Sextus(1589-1590) called Fra Marino,became extremely interested in the writings of Iranaeus.One day he was invited to visit the Pope and lunch with him.After eating with him,the Pope became drowsy and fellasleep.Father Marino took to browsing throughthe various books and manuscripts in the private library of Pope Sextus and happened upon an Italian translation of the Gospel of Barnabas.Father Marino concealed itin his sleeve and left the Vatican with it.This Gospel passed through many hands until it reached the hands of“a person of great name and authority in Amsterdam who during his lifetime,was often heard to put a high value on this piece.”After his death,it came into the possessionof J.E. Cramer,Councilor of the King of Prussia.In1713,Cramer presented this Gospel to the famous connoisseur of books,Prince Eugene of Savoy.In1738,the library of the Prince,including this Gospel was incorporated into the Hofbibliothek in Vienna where it now rests.Only the popularity of this copy of the Gospel of Barnabas saved it from the fate of most other copies.

Toland, in his “Miscellaneous Works” (published posthumously in 1747), in Vol. I, page 380, mentions that the Gospel of Barnabas was still extant. In Chapter XV he refers to
the Glasian Decree of 496 A.D. where “Evangelium Barnabe” is included in the list of forbidden books.
