Kentucky Vanderbilt

LEXINGTON, Ky. — Freshman Anthony Davis scored a career-high 28 points on 10-of-11 shooting, and No. 1 Kentucky beat Vanderbilt 83-74 on Saturday to win the Southeastern Conference regular season title for the 45th time.

The Wildcats (28-1, 14-0) have won 51 straight at home and are on a 20-game winning streak overall. But Kentucky trailed at halftime and needed a late surge to put away the scrappy Commodores.

Davis, who had 11 rebounds and five blocks, hit an 18-foot jumper as the shot clock expired with 1:06 left. Terrence Jones added a dunk, and Davis blocked Lance Goulbourne's shot with 31 seconds to go to put the game away.

Jeffery Taylor scored 19 points for Vanderbilt (20-9, 9-5), and John Jenkins added 15 of his 18 points in the second half.

My guess is that another young, but talented, team of Calipari may make it to the Elite 8, but believe they'll be gone by the end of the Sweet 16.

A 9 point win over a quality, veteran sweet 16 caliber opponent like Vandy while playing their B-Grade game bodes well for Kentucky going into fateful March. But will Marcus Teague please put some effort into playing defense????

I agree he can be uneven, but he will turn 19 on Tuesday. I give the guy a break, and what were you doing at 18?

I was a cadet at West Point...and you?..My point is, with all the timeouts, tv timeouts and all the help Teague gets inside form shot blocking beasts Davis and Jones, fatigue can't be a factor and consistent effort on the perimeter will make a huge difference in keeping teams from shooting open 3's in the tournament. Look at a replay of Indiana's miracle 3 pointer win over UK. Teague gets picked at half court, his man breaks free and instead of hustling over with his jet-quickness to recover on D, he non-chalantly jogs back to this man with 3 seconds on the clock....result > wide open winning shot for IU by Teague's man, instead of a real effort by him topcontest that shot.....and many, many others this season.
