Kevin McGuire, Teen Cancer Patient, To Be Taylor Swift's Date To Academy Of Country Music Awards

Taylor Swift might not be going to prom with teen fan Kevin McGuire, but the songstress has invited the 18-year-old to the Academy of Country Music Awards as her date.

His answer? Yes!

McGuire, a New Jersey high school student, is battling cancer for a second time, but he's not letting treatment hold him back.

Earlier this week, McGuire's sister Victoria took to Facebook and created a page titled "Taylor Swift Take Kevin McGuire To Prom!" The athlete is a big fan of the country singer, and his sister thought it would be a worthwhile idea to ask Swift to the dance on his behalf.

McGuire was all for the idea, but didn't think anything would come of it, The Courier-Post reports.

Well, buzz about the Facebook page garnered plenty of media attention, and on Friday Taylor Swift took to her Facebook page and gave McGuire a response:

McGuire, who's currently receiving treatment at Children's Hospital of Philadelphia, was ecstatic about the news and said the offer was "a lot better than the senior prom," The Courier-Post reports.

"I've never seen him smile like that," Victoria McGuire told FOX 29 News.

The teen's support team updated their Facebook page with the latest development:

** Taylor got back to us!!!! She is unable to attend Kevin's prom, although did one better- Invited Kevin to be her date to the Academy of Country Music Awards!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Thank you so so so so so much! The McGuire family could never show how grateful we are to all of you! We have won in more than one way.. we got Taylor to take Kevin on a date, and we have made so many good friends along the way! **

McGuire will continue to receive treatment, and he's determined to win the battle against leukemia.

"I had no doubt I would kick its butt the first time, and I did," McGuire told MyFoxPhilly.com. "Hopefully I'll be able to continue that this time..."

The Academy of Country Music Awards will be held April 1 in Las Vegas.

She is truly a class act, and I have no doubt this will be a wonderful event for Kevin. I hope it creates the memory a lifetime! Taylor Swift made my young daughter's life back in November, so I believe that anything is possible with this young girl, she is fantastic.

More proof of what a caring, compassionate and mature young woman Taylor Swift is. C.H.O.P. is an amazing hospital (my son was successfully treated there) and Kevin is in the best of hands. I wish him a speedy and complete recovery along with a wonderful night with Ms. Swift.
