Michael Symon Takes Third Burger Bash Win In A Row At South Beach Wine And Food Festival (PHOTOS)

By J.M. HIRSCH   02/24/12 10:10 PM ET  AP

MIAMI BEACH, Fla. -- Food Network Iron Chef Michael Symon turned a triple dose of pork into a third consecutive top win at the South Beach Wine and Food Festival's annual Burger Bash.

"We like the meat-on-meat concept," Symon said Friday of his string of winning burgers, all of which were dressed with meaty toppings. This year's winner, the Porky Burger, featured a ground pork burger studded with bacon, then topped with pulled pork. And for good measure, he added a side of pork cracklings.

"The first year we did the salami. The second year we did the pastrami. This year we ground the bacon into the meat for the burger," he said. "We did what we thought was impossible, so maybe we should call it quits."

Last year Symon's winning burger was the Yo! Burger, a beef patty topped with fried salami, provolone cheese, shasha sauce and pickled onion. In 2010, it was his Fat Doug, which was topped with pastrami, Swiss cheese and coleslaw on a brioche bun.

The award is part of the annual Burger Bash, a fixture of the festival hosted by Rachael Ray. Dozens of chefs from around the country gather in a massive tent on the beach, cooking up their best burger creations for thousands of attendees.

Other previous winners include Spike Mendelsohn of Good Stuff Eatery in Washington (2009), Michael Schlow of Radius in Boston (2008) and Shake Shack of New York (2007).

Make it a blind taste test and you'll see rare and unknown winners all the time. Once the tasters know who's burger it is it skewers the results. Don't believe me, go to any of the bbq championships across the states. Usually its the known people that win first cuz their creations have their names on the dishes. The one show which had no names beside the plates, a bunch of starngers won which made for boring episode so now you know.

Why aren't the articles on cooking shows in the entertainment, IMO TV cooking isn't serious cooking it's entertainment.

say what you will, pork x 3 is it the healthiest? probably not...but it sure sounds delicious!
its not something you'll eat everyday...but don't get it twisted...reg. burger & hot dogs aren't healthy either!

Michael Symon is pretty fantastic. I'd love to eat at one of his restaurants sometime. I made his recipe for a fancy mac and cheese with penne, rosemary and cream. I'm tellin' ya, the couldy skies parted and angels began to sing.

I submitted a recipe for a Burger Bash once, but apparently it's not the same BB attended by celebrity chefs.

It's spelled "Michael Symon", not "Micheal Simon".

Amazing that people have jobs. Also, it's IRON chefs Morimoto and Forgione!

Amateurs.

Ok pork. So if a pig eats a person and a person eats a pig is that cannibalism once removed?
