Last Iraq War Soldier, Ahmed Kousay al-Taie, Remains Identified

Last Soldier Iraq War

Posted: 02/26/2012 1:43 pm

WASHINGTON (AP) — The U.S military says it has identified the remains of the last American service member unaccounted for in Iraq.

Staff Sgt. Ahmed Kousay al-Taie was an Army interpreter who was born in Iraq and lived in Ann Arbor, Mich. He was kidnapped at gunpoint in October 2006 when he sneaked off base on a motorcycle to visit his Iraqi wife in central Baghdad.

The Army issued a statement Sunday saying that the military's mortuary in Dover, Del., had positively identified a set of remains as belonging to al-Taie.

Army officials said they had no further details on the circumstances surrounding his death or the discovery of his remains.

Thank you Judith Miller of the New York times for your report on the Iraq "Weapons of Mass Destruction". See you in Hell.

This is just the way they are. They will never change. I am sorry for all Americans who served and died there for nothing.

6,000 US dead, including 'contractors' and media, over 45,000 wounded and maimed. Bush's presidency will forever be remembered foremost for this blunder in the same way that Johnson is remembered for Vietnam, as they should! That doesn't count the 100,000 + Iraqi dead. Hope we learned a lesson. We got the facts wrong, but a couple of hotheads, Cheney and Rumsfeld, framed them in such a way that they could justify their war.

Sorry to correct you. Indeed it's tragic. There were at least 1.4 million Iraqi deaths.
09:26 AM on 02/29/2012
Good point. There are about six different agencies estimating a huge variance in Iraqi casualties, including ORB which quotes a similar number to yours. Most agencies including the WHO and Iraqi Health Ministry estimate between 100,000 to 150,000. I don't think the true number will ever be known especially since accurate census data from the Sadam era is so unreliable, and current census data does not account for thousands of emigres.

RIP all who sacrificed your lives in a costly war. I'm not sure we gained any thing other than more anger towards us in the Middle East.

The shot of the woman in the burka is somewhat telling. Republicans being the fundamentalists they are, Iʻm surprised they donʻt make their women-folk dress like that.
05:57 AM on 02/27/2012
Well seeing as how that woman is NOT in a burka, shows your intelligence. You're about as smart as our President! Congratulations.

Most Tea Baggers would probably say that since Staff Sgt. Ahmed Kousay al-Taie was born in Iraq, he wasn't a real American. Shame on them.

I recall something about all those weapons of mass destruction we found and destroyed. Oh I forgot we didn't find or destroy any. Must have been a fib or misunderstanding

Are you aware that most of these soldiers, including myself, volunteered to join? Are you also aware that, although we lost about 3500 combat deaths over 8 years in Iraq, over 30,000 Americans die every year by car accidents. Are you also aware that every year over 30,000 Americans die in drug deaths (overdoses and associated crime). I spent two tours in Iraq and I was armed and able to defend myself, unlike a lot of the 60,000+ that die from drugs and cars every year. Maybe you should complain about cars and drugs instead. By the way, nobody lied, the US acted on intelligence that was evaluated and briefed to the President.

all good points. i've often said to people that if you really care about american lives then the police should pull over more speeders and lock up drunk drivers, take their cars away as well as providing universal health coverage, create affordable gyms and exercise programs for all americans and hundreds of thousands of american lives would be saved, and it would be far cheaper.

You mean to say there are no US soldiers in Iraq?

"Now only diplomatic-related military personnel remain in Iraq." That's double speak for, there are still military there that can be killed but we won't count them.
11:15 PM on 02/26/2012
Well said.......so many that are not aware of the military world seem to think that all troops are combat troops. As an old time military wife, I have to laugh at their utter ignorance on the subject. Poor suckers, they believe all of what the media and some politicians tell them........

Last I read (about 2 weeks ago) there are still 4,000 U.S. troops and over 5,000 contractors, along with 11 THOUSAND "embassy personnel" still in Iraq.
