McDonald's To Debut The McBaguette In France

Posted: 02/27/2012 9:56 am

On April 18, McDonald's France is debuting its newest sandwich: the McBaguette. The sandwich will feature a burger with French-made Emmental cheese and mustard on a baguette rather than a bun. The McBaguette will be available for six weeks throughout France's 1,228 McDonald's outposts.

Nawfal Trabelsi, Senior Vice President of Marketing for McDonald's France and Southern Europe said the the McBaguette is designed to appeal to the palates of local diners.

We're surprised that the McBaguette didn't already exist, given McDonald's penchant for incorporating regional food items into menu items. The McItaly burger contains Italian products like pancetta and Asiago cheese and Israel's McFalafel (RIP) played off the popular Mediterranean chickpea dish.

Though baguettes may be popular in France, they don't usually have a burger inside. It remains to be seen if McDonald's can close the gap between French culinary heritage and fast food.

I've heard they are also working on a potato chip and mircle whip on wonder bread concoction to be labeled a McBagger.

I have to agree. I just returned from Paris 3 days ago. I was amazed to see that every McDonald's I saw was packed with people. Also noticed that their restaurants seem to be designed/decorated to attract adult customers rather than children.

i think this is an insult to the foodie culture of the french.

expect this go down in flames.

this is the latest corporate attempt at trying to commercialize and stereotype the french tastes.

Yeah, the frenchies are very particular about presentation, substance and quantity. Then again, the krauts are just as headstrong and their version of homefries with a McMuffin is much better than the old deep-fired potato pancake you get in the US.

Insult the food culture of the French?! Are you serious? It's not an insult at all, its called corporate integration. If people get insulted by food, they have a hell of a life in this day & age!

That's not a baguette, Mc Donald's. That's a Cibatta. Call it the Mc Cibatta, guys.

Reminds me of that I Love Lucy episode where the gang buys a cheese sandwich, and it tastes like rubber with stale bread...... Don't think McDonalds is going to be baking fresh bread, and using quality cheese and lunch meat....

Europe has difference food standards than the US. In fact, a Big Mac tastes much better in Europe than the US. Of course, In-N-Out Burgers and fries are still the flagship of the burger fast-food chains no matter where you are in the world ... IMHO.

Agreed. While living in Sweden, their McDonalds actually served burgers with real meat instead of a "meat like substance".

They don't force you to buy it. I've never been forced to buy a big mac. They sell it because people WANT it.

that's a flawed argument.

i don't know how many times i've heard that flawed retort from dim wits.

your making some fast and loose assumptions on WHY and HOW people decide to purchase.

it's less about "wanting" as is they have become addicted to it.

there is a science to how fast food companies craft their food to make it addictive.

educate yourself.
