Ryan Seacrest Sacha Baron Cohen Oscar Prank: TV Host Responds To Urn Gag

First Posted: 02/27/2012 8:15 am Updated: 02/27/2012 12:45 pm

It was the red carpet prank heard 'round the 84th annual Academy Awards: Sacha Baron Cohen -- dressed as Admiral General Aladeen, his character from the upcoming comedy "The Dictator" -- spilled an urn filled with "Kim Jong-il's ashes" all over E! red-carpet host Ryan Seacrest before the Oscar ceremony on Sunday night.

Cohen-as-Aladeen joked that it was Kim Jong-il's "dream to come to the Oscars and to be sprinkled over the red carpet and over Halle Berry's chest.” Of course, Cohen's gag was already dated by the time he arrived on the red carpet; Berry had to bow out of her presenter duties at the last minute because of an injury.

As for Seacrest, the normally unflappable host seemed slight perturbed that he wound up being the butt of Cohen's long-planned Oscar prank. After Cohen was whisked away by security, Seacrest told Antonio Banderas and Melanie Griffith that the ashes were some form of powdered pancake mix.

"My mom always told me to pack two jackets for red carpets, always wondered why. Now I know," Seacrest wrote on Twitter, before later adding, "A lot of people hitting up afterparties tonight...me? I'm hosting a pancake breakfast tomorrow."

I think Cohen needs to pay Seacrest for incorporating him into Cohen's movie plug...

I wish people would remember these are the OSCAR awards, not the Nobel. These godlike celebrities get lauded over (even more than they normally do) for playing make believe. Playing DRESS UP and getting paid way way way too much for it. I like movies, I really do, but come on people... it's the Oscars. It's not like these people are curing cancer or something.

Ryan is such a class act. He managed to smile and laugh about it, even when he thought cameras were not on. He is a good sport and great guy.

Uh, he wasn't smiling. If you look closely you can see through his fake expressions.

Cohen is a talent-less hack still searching for his 15 minutes. The female presenter standing next to Seacreast looked like she was trying to decide between contacting a lawyer of contacting Cohens jaw. What a mutant some people look forward to this event all their lives not to mention spending a lot of money and this duffus palys the clown. Time and place. Wrong time, wrong place.

agree 100%

Yes, well said "talent-less hack" pretty much sums it up.

SBC is a riot! Seacrest was really good sport about it though! "When someone asks you who you are wearing, you can say Kim Jong Il!" Hilarious quote!

Yep, Cohen is so unfunny he managed to get cast in a Scorsese movie.

Get over yourselves, people. This was all a set up from the beginning, and Seacrest was in on it.

YOU SPEAK FROM EXPERIENCE, OBVIOUSLY. WAS IT A GUY OR A GIRL YOU GOT IT FROM?

AND WHY ARE WE SHOUTING, ANYWAY?

Cohen is an udder - yup, spelled right - udder fool. He doesn't deserve the word utter. From the moment of Bortz, Borch, Barff whatever that film was he has gone down hill from altitude "0" to negitive 100 ( -100 ). When is he going to fade out...............................
09:21 AM on 02/29/2012
how did you come up with that number. you should be in the poll business

Cohen is so not funny and neither was his prank.
05:19 AM on 02/29/2012
I say roll with it. It gave Seacrest more play time than other commentators.

Thank God for bit torrent technology, cause if I had to actually pay for that awful nonsense, excuse me, movie (Is that what it was) with Sasha in it, I would have shot myself.

Academy Awards were obviously desperate for ratings to allow him into the AMPAS ceremonies. Pathetic..

@Tom Hankins. Did you pass first grade grammar and spelling lessons?

Gee Sasha, did you know those $1000 tuxedos and ultra-expensive gowns are usually on loan to those honored and emceeing at the AMPAS ceremony?
