The CW has finally found its Carrie Bradshaw, the role originally made famous by Sarah Jessica Parker in the HBO hit "Sex and the City."

After months of speculation, the lucky actress playing Bradshaw in the CW prequel, "The Carrie Diaries," is AnnaSophia Robb, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Robb, 18, is perhaps best known for her role in 2007's "Bridge to Terabithia."

Based on the novel by Candace Bushnell, "The Carrie Diaries" focuses on a young Carrie Bradshaw -- before the Manolo Blahniks -- as she grows up in a small town during the 1980s, learning about love, sex, friendship and family while still balancing the day-to-day drama of high school.

"Running Wilde" actress Stefania Owen will co-star opposite Robb. According to EW, Owen will play Carrie's younger sister, Dorrit.

Although I am not a fashion expert, buying my clothes in stores and not looking like I just looted the dumpster behind Goodwill, I think the bra goes under whatever your wearing.

So Sarah Jessica Parker doesn't have typical "Hollywood" good looks...I actually find her really attractive and the comparisons to a horse is getting really old...

Not a fan of the show but AnnaSophia Robb is a great kid. I was really pissed off when she died in Bridge to Terabithia.

Shouldn't they get an actress with a horsey-face?

The only Carrie I care about got pig's blood dumped on her at the prom. Though, here's hoping for a cross-over.

I look forward to watching this as long as they get the 1980s right. If Carrie Bradshaw grew up in a small town, most likely she liked Ronald Reagan.

Couldn't they just digitally insert the Carrie Bradshaw character into "Saved By The Bell"? It would be the right timeframe.

You should work in TV. I love this idea!

I was the same age as the actors in that show when it was airing, life was nothing like that in the 80s, it was more like .. Donnie Darko at school, or maybe Napoleon Dynamite.

Richard Linklater's 'Slacker' was closer to it.

I'm glad they chose a somewhat unknown actress. I think the series needed that. I know they were considering Blake Lively which I think would have been awful. I just think Blake Lively is already way too established, dated a lot of hollywood already. A fresh new face will be great for the series. Just personal preference though. A con could be a lack of acting experience, but I'm sure they screened extensively.

So actors can't get the job if they are established? that's a weird statement. Who cares who they date, give the talent the job, whoever it is.

I agree, but I just think it would make a show a better hit if it were someone new. People loved becoming obsessed with Blake Lively for gossip girl, seeing her style in real life, reading about her life etc. Now there is a new girl to find out a lot of information about, so I just think it would be better.

Not to mention, they are expert casting directors, I'm sure they did choose the best talent and person right for the part.

Its a personal opinion. I think either would be great. I guess I always think of Lively as so mature, so much older. I'm not sure if thats just me though.

A SATC prequel on the CW network is worthless.

I know, I think it will be too. I think its intended for a MUCH younger audience. Like 7th grade-high school. They are smart to make it, with all the success of Vampire Diaries and other shows with similar audience ranges.

Do you know what sucess their shows have? I think this will be successful for their young audience.

Why do people have so much hate for SJP? Did I miss something? Did she beat up Matthew or feed her children crack or something? As for the comments on her looks, I would love to see photos of the people calling her "donkey" or "horse". On second thought, no need...I can smell the insecurity through my computer screen.

I agree. I like her a lot. I don't LOVE her for any particular reason, and I thought she was a horrible fake crier. But I thought she was a fantastic Carrie Bradshaw, and I can't imagine anyone else playing her (except at a diff age like this girl).

I think a lot of it stemmed from guys really disliking the show, specifically out of insecurity. If you think about it, the show is going on 15-20 years now, and these were really strong, independent, empowering women. I think SJP just represented that, and the fact that she wasn't a supermodel made guys really hate on her.
01:17 PM on 02/29/2012
I agree with every word and I'm a male. I like to refer to this kind of hate as the "Oprah effect". Anything coming from a woman's perspective, a powerful woman's perspective at that, is deemed unusual and somehow "wrong" so the powerful woman in question must be taken down a notch (or five), especially if she isn't catering to the stereotypical, libidinous desires of straight guys.
