Celebrating International Peace Corps Week: Add Your Photos! (SLIDESHOW)

When John. F. Kennedy stood on the stairs of the University of Michigan on Oct. 14, 1960, a grand idea was articulated -- one of service, international relationships, travel, and peace.

"How many of you who are going to be doctors, are willing to spend your days in Ghana? Technicians or engineers, how many of you are willing to work in the Foreign Service and spend your lives traveling around the world?...I think Americans are willing to contribute. But the effort must be far greater than we have ever made in the past."

More than 50 years later, the Peace Corps is much more than an idea. The volunteer service has sent more than 200,000 people to 139 different countries, with work ranging from education and HIV/AIDS research, to technology and environmental preservation.

To celebrate its accomplishments, Peace Corps is hosting Peace Corps Week Feb. 26 through March 3 with events, speakers and conferences around the country.

Submit your Peace Corps pictures below as a way of celebrating your service, or check out the slideshow to see where other volunteers have been.
