Barclays Center At Atlantic Yards, New Brooklyn Nets Arena, Searching For Local Food Vendors

Massive Atlantic Yards Stadium Searching For Brooklyn-y Food Vendors

The future home of the Brooklyn Nets is looking to embrace its borough moniker with local food vendors serving up "quintessentially Brooklyn" cuisine.

Hm, what exactly defines such? Stadium honchos seem to think they've nailed it with a hodgepodge of pickles and fancy silverware.

Barclays spokesman Barry Baum describes the plan, "We’re looking for everything from pickles to pizza and from silverware to sandwich picks. We really want to showcase all Brooklyn-based items that might not otherwise have an opportunity to be considered for an arena."

Hear that McClure's? Interested restaurant businesses who believe they fit the Brooklyn bill can officially apply to be a vendor with a distributed survey soon. The Daily News reports that restaurants will be required to have an A health department rating and list their neighborhood name.

This isn't the first time stadium executives have touted the borough as a potential market goldmine. Following September's announcement of the name change from New Jersey Nets to Brooklyn, Nets chief executive Brett Yormark said, "Brooklyn was easy, because we think Brooklyn is the brand. Brooklyn is iconic. It transcends the marketplace. In many respects, it’s a global name and reference."

So tell us, what restaurants would you like to see disguise the colossal stadium as just your friendly neighborhood sports center? While you brainstorm what vendors scream Brooklyn, check out construction of the 18,000 seat arena below:
