NEW YORK, Feb 29 (Reuters) - About 10 Occupy Wall Street demonstrators were arrested in New York City on Wednesday during protests that failed to pull in big crowds or draw much attention on what organizers had hoped would be a nationwide day of revival for the movement.

As rain clouds gathered overhead, several dozen police officers on motorcycles escorted a group of about 50 protestors that marched from a park outside the New York Public Library to the world headquarters of Pfizer Inc and back. They denounced Pfizer as a corporation that lobbies for legislation to create tax breaks and other benefits for large businesses.

"Shame on Pfizer! You're a bunch of liars!" chanted the protestors as they milled around barricades in front of Pfizer, the world's largest drug maker.

Afterward, Pfizer acknowledged involvement with legislative organizations but said in a statement that its aim was strictly to "advance the health of all Americans."

Among those arrested was a bicyclist in the group headed back to Bryant Park outside the library. Police had no immediate information about the arrest.

Another eight people with sleeping bags were arrested overnight in Zuccotti Park, birthplace of the movement and strictly off-limits for camping since police evicted protestors from their tent city there in November, a police spokesman said. Seven of them were charged with disorderly conduct, the eighth with trying to interfere with the arrests.

A ninth person was arrested nearby in the early morning hours for resisting arrest and disorderly conduct, police said.

Coast to coast demonstrations slated for Wednesday were aimed at revving up the movement known as "Occupy," which has been relatively quiet in the months since police cleared encampments in New York, Oakland and other major cities.

A rallying cry of the movement has been that 1 percent of the population has too much of the nation's wealth and the remaining 99 percent is disadvantaged.

Pfizer was awarded a mock prize for "Excellence in Profiteering" by the group before it marched back in the rain to Bryant Park, carrying signs reading "People over profit" and "Healthcare is a human right" as well as "I'm a doctor for the 99 percent."

Hoisting a sign reading "I can't afford to get sick" was Jennifer Roberts, 44, a painter who lives in Jersey City, New Jersey.

"I've lived the bulk of my adult working life without insurance," said Roberts, who is single and therefore not covered by a spouse's health insurance either. "I feel it's very important to pursue a single payer system for this country."

Protestor Paul Layton, 59, a lawyer who lives in New York City, wore a yellow button reading "Healthcare for the 99 percent."

"I have to make a choice between keeping my office open and keeping my health insurance," said Layton who is also single and uninsured. (Additional reporting by Ransdell Pierson; Editing By Barbara Goldberg and Paul Thomasch)

When an Occupy Miami member offered evicted protestors vacant apartments in a building he owns in Downtown Miami's Overtown neighborhood, it seemed like the perfect solution: the 'Peace City' space would provide headquarters for the movement and shelter a small faction of the group's most vulnerable members. But it hasn't gone well. Other tenants say the building has become a cesspool of drug use and violence while non-resident Occupy Miami members are trying to distance themselves from the 'radicals' -- all while the two factions are wrestling for control over Occupy Miami's social media sites and future plans.

From the Miami New Times:

The feud between the Overtown occupiers and more mainstream members has only gotten worse. The two factions are now battling for control of Occupy Miami's social media sites. The movement's main Twitter account recently announced it had been "hijacked by a small, non-consensus group of radical members." The Occupy Miami Facebook page was also temporarily hacked by someone inside Peace City. Meanwhile, the Overtown occupation is slowly driving away more moderate members.

"This is a black eye on the Occupy movement," says Shannon Reaze, an Overtown community organizer and Occupy Miami supporter who is now helping tenants move out of Paz's building. "The violence and drugs going on here are way outside of what I thought Occupy stood for. This place is destabilized."

...The supposedly hard-core activists here spend their days drinking and getting high. And as Peace City devolves into lawlessness, the most committed occupiers are leaving. Local landowners and politicians want the place shut down, while cops are suspicious. Yet as long as Paz wants the protesters around, nothing short of a demolition order can keep them out.

WASHINGTON -- Occupy DC has a new lawsuit involving tents on its hands. But it doesn't involve temporary structures in McPherson Square.

Two protesters arrested during a February action outside Merrill Lynch's offices on 15th Street NW near McPherson Square have filed suit against the Metropolitan Police Department, Legal Times reports. (Read the complaint here.)

The plaintiffs, Samuel Dukore and Kelly Canavan, were part of a "targeted occupation" of Merrill Lynch on Feb. 13 where protesters were raising awareness about Merrill Lynch's reportedly close ties with Rep. Darrell Issa (R-Calif.). Issa, for his part, claims that the reports of these close ties are "wildly inaccurate."

OWS reports via its website:

After the brutal attack on the attempted re-occupation of Liberty Square by NYPD on the 6-month anniversary of #OWS, a number of Occupiers have relocated their base of occupation to Union Square in midtown Manhattan, a point of convergence for several #OWS protests over the past 6 months.

According to reports on the ground, several dozen people slept in the park after the illegal and violent raid on Liberty Square. Over 70 people remain, now on Day 3. Although tents and tables are still banned, Occupiers have brought blankets and sleeping gear. Many are calling it ¨the new Occupation.¨ In addition to holding General Assemblies, Union Square Occupiers are providing vital jail support for those arrested on #M17 as they are released from NYPD custody. So far, the NYPD has made no attempt to remove Occupiers or prevent them from sleeping in the park.

The woman had the apparent seizure has been identified by the New York Observer as Cecily McMillan:

Cecily McMillan, an Occupy Wall Street activist once profiled in Rolling Stone, suffered a seizure Saturday night during protest action near Zuccotti Park. Many on-scene reported Ms. McMillan had trouble breathing after she was tackled and handcuffed by law enforcement.

A video uploaded to Youtube late Saturday night purports to show the attack. Two women can be heard commenting, “There’s Cecily,” then there is confusion as the police clearly perform a violent take-down on someone in the crowd.

According to Jeff Sharlet’s November, 2011 article about the Occupy Movement, this may be Ms. McMillan’s second violent encounter with police.

The paper reports from last night's chaos at Zuccotti Park:

At one point, a woman who appeared to be suffering from seizures flopped on the ground in handcuffs as bystanders shouted for the police to remove the cuffs and provide medical attention. For several minutes the woman lay on the ground as onlookers made increasingly agonized demands until an ambulance arrived and the woman was placed inside.

By 12:20 a.m., a line of officers pushed against some of the remaining protesters, forcing them south on Broadway, at times swinging batons and shoving people to the ground.

Kobi Skolnick, 30, said that officers pushed him in several directions and that as he tried to walk away, he was struck from behind in the neck. “One of the police ran and hit me with a baton,” he said.

For those contemplating hiring an attorney, steer clear of this Paul Layton guy. If he has to choose between keeping his office open or getting healthcare, he should consider another line of work. He must not be too good at his current profession. Guaranteed that he is reneging on his student loans too.

Protestors who camp illegally, who defecate on police cars, who loot city hall (plus burning the flag to boot), who throw urine bombs, who block traffic. You forgot to mention the things they do that get them arrested.

We arrests all criminals. White collar criminals generally do not run, are non violent and comply to the terms of an arrest. These protestors generally are violent people who have nothing to lose, so they generally do not comply to simple commands. They force the police to treat them with physical force.

OWS: A fringe group of people motivated by media coverage, unhappy with the current situation, decides to impose their ways through non-Democratic means thereby alienating, harassing and intimidating the same Americans they should be winning over. Didn't Al Qaeda try this on us on 9/11 and Americans, thank god, still preferred Democracy?

Odd. OWS doesn't support any political parties yet won't produce a candidate for everyone to vote in. What kind of ruler or system of government do they want? Definitely not democracy.

At the risk of sounding like a jerk sellout, can someone explain what exactly the OWS movement has accomplished? I mean besides alerting the world that we are all generally p'od at the machine that runs our economy.

I was laid off in late 2008, and for 2 1/2 years I did temp work and unpaid internships to keep my skills current, a roof over my head and to keep myself from going crazy. I would not have been able to do that if I spent my days picketing. And I am not judging, because I have always admired people who stand for passionate beliefs that affect society for the greater good.

But getting back to my question, what exactly has OWS accomplished? Not being snarky, I am genuinely curious.

Rather than numerous "cuts," our elected leaders were put in the situation of having to focus on jobs and economic relief, which many, including the white house, had all but given up on before OWS gained momentum.

I don't think these kids really understand how the world works. Companies like Pfizer do a lot of good for humanity in the form of developing medicine. The reason why Pfizer spends so much money developing new dr.ugs is because there is money in it. If they weren't able to turn a profit on the dr.ugs they develop then they wouldn't take the risk in trying to develop them. It is all driven by capitalism, and it has given us some really important breakthroughs over the years.

You're right. But you're missing the recalls, the fact that they won't send needed medication to Third World countries or anything else that doesn't make a profit. There are plenty of countries that are not as purely profit driven that have done just as much for medical technology, if not more.

I'm very glad Pfizer does what they do. I'm alive because of Pfizer and a few other drug companies, and medical technology companies who took risks on research and development and brought products to market that helped countless people.

The protesters were shouting that Pfizer is "a bunch of liars". How does protecting their self-interest equate to being "liars"? What lies?

OWS isn't a movement, more of a ....constipation. Come to think of it, it is a movement, a bowel movement.
