Rush Limbaugh: Sandra Fluke, Woman Denied Right To Speak At Contraception Hearing, A 'Slut'

Rush Limbaugh

Rush Limbaugh called the woman who was denied the right to speak at a controversial contraception hearing a "slut" on Wednesday.

Sandra Fluke, a student at Georgetown Law School, was supposed to be the Democratic witness at a Congressional hearing about the Obama administration's contraception policy. However, Darrell Issa, the committee chair at the hearing, prevented her from speaking, while only allowing a series of men to testify about the policy. Fluke eventually spoke to a Democratic hearing, and talked about the need for birth control for both reproductive and broader medical reasons. She mentioned in particular a friend of hers who needed contraception to prevent the growth of cysts.

To Limbaugh, though, Fluke was just promoting casual sex.

"Can you imagine if you were her parents how proud...you would be?" he said. "Your daughter ... testifies she's having so much sex she can't afford her own birth control pills and she wants President Obama to provide them, or the Pope."

He continued:

"What does it say about the college co-ed Susan Fluke [sic] who goes before a congressional committee and essentially says that she must be paid to have sex -- what does that make her? It makes her a slut, right? It makes her a prostitute. She wants to be paid to have sex. She's having so much sex she can't afford the contraception. She wants you and me and the taxpayers to pay her to have sex."

Limbaugh then said, "ok, so she's not a slut. She's round-heeled." "Round-heeled" is an old-fashioned term for promiscuity.

Limbaugh's comments came on the same day that Fluke was mentioned during a debate in the Senate about the so-called "Blunt Amendment," which would override Obama's contraception rule. Sen. Barbara Boxer brought up Fluke's testimony, recounting what she would have said at the Congressional panel if she had been given the opportunity.

listening to this man and calling yourself a christian is a contradiction.
08:39 AM on 03/19/2012
Your own words being said and calling yourself a Christin are a contradiction "Judge not, that ye be not judged. For with what judgment ye judge, ye shall be judged: and with what measure ye mete, it shall be measured to you again. And why beholdest thou the mote that is in thy brother’s eye, but considerest not the beam that is in thine own eye? Matthew 7:1-3"

It's Christian, not Christin. Also, dude never said he was a Christian.

She's not suggesting being paid to have sex (that's a whole other topic)! She's asking for the medication required to prevent unwanted/unplanned pregnancies to be covered by insurance! She's not having sex alone...that would require no medication.

Rush's language was inappropriate, and he's acknowledged that ... but those on the left have not addressed the constitutional issues involved, or the expanded entitlements we cannot afford. A key detail left out is what percentage of birth control medication is used to treat reproductive tract diseases.

Rush Limbaugh is my hero.... the most brilliant man in America... Thank God that he shines light on the real issue here.

Appreciate the comment. I like Rush, but I think your fandom exceeds mine!

Access is NOT the issue, as contraception is NOT illegal. The issue here is that liberal activists want this to be FREE.
The arguments, in which they make as to why it should be free, are ludicrous. A person will find a cell phone a priority but NOT contraception? Any woman with a cell phone should NOT be out there arguing that they cannot get contraception. Sandra Fluke deserves the scrutiny she is getting..in fact she asked for it.
08:44 AM on 03/06/2012
I agree except Rush should have made his point without the name calling
12:00 PM on 03/06/2012
No, the issue is over a mandate requiring birth control to be covered by any insurance provider. Her testimony was relevant because her insurance provider, Georgetown University, doesn't cover birth control as a Catholic institution. The suggestion that birth control is as affordable without insurance as a cell phone is ludicrous to the extreme. The mandate in no way would make birth control free for her, it would make it so it was covered by her insurance policy the exact same way it's covered for the majority of american women. She's still paying for the insurance, and unless you're an employee of Georgetown University the notion that several people seem to be harboring that they're paying for this woman's birth control is incorrect.

You could have also added that Viagra IS typically covered by insurance.....even by Medicare!!! That "law" was put into insurance policies by a largely MALE Congress.....(what a surprise, eh?)
08:43 AM on 03/19/2012
Maybe, if she wanted her birth control covered, she should have looked at attending a college NOT attached to and run by a religion known for its opposition of birth control? Georgetown isn't the only law school in this country by any stretch. Then, there's the idea of the numbers she quoted, that's an awful lot of condoms in that number don't you think? If she truly is spending that much on condoms, when is she attending class and doing homework? We all know what this is about, and it has nothing to do with poor little her having to go out and pay 2 bucks for a box of condoms at a local convenience store.

Remember when Laura Ingram was called a "slut" by Ed Shultz? Where was the uproar then? Where were the women's groups then?
03:16 AM on 03/05/2012
Or when Bill Maher, on more than one occasion, called Sarah Palin a "stupid c-word"?

Politicians, on both the left and the right, seem to lack the courage to reprimand their supporters' for their outrageous behavior. One of the few exceptions was when President Obama disassociated himself from Rev. Jeremiah Wright.

The GOP loudly demonize anybody who disagrees with their doctrine. Yet if you look into the private lives of people like Limbaugh you find nothing nice, in fact you find that they very rarely practice what they preach.

He has lost 7 advertisers so far.... people are calling, tweeting, emailing and texting advertisers, radio stations that carry his program and Clear Channel Communications.

This is truly a David and goliath story with a huge media mogul that earns millions and has millions of listeners attacking a college student.

No one should be defending what this man has said. He was out of line.

"Denied Right to Speak at Contraception Hearing"? Who writes your headlines?

No citizen has a right to speak at a congressional hearing. People are invited (or in some cases, subpoenaed) to testify, by the respective committee chairman, for the purpose of informing or enlightening members of the committee with respect to pending or potential legislation.

The GOP, the party of the scarlet letter. Not the book, the actual scarlet letter. What a bunch of creeps.
