Two People Hit By Train At Same Subway Station Today

Two men were struck separately by oncoming, northbound trains at the same 72nd Street and Broadway subway station on Wednesday.

Earlier this morning around 8AM, a man believed to have been in his sixties was fatally hit by an oncoming uptown 1 train.

The second person was hit by an uptown 2 train around noon and remains in stable condition. It is unclear whether the man jumped or fell into the tracks.

West Side Rag reports that the second person is a 33-year old white male, who was taken to St. Luke's Hospital.

An MTA worker described the second incident, "He was on the track; I think he was trying to retrieve something. This guy was really lucky, only his legs got messed up. He rolled off the tracks and got most of his body out of the way."

As of 2PM this afternoon the 1, 2, and 3 trains are back and running on good service.

[UPDATE] The first incident involved a 62-year old man who committed suicide, and the second man was a 33-year old who may have been intoxicated and fell into the tracks.

[UPDATE] A medical examiner has said that 62-year old male, Hector Saint Hilaire, did not commit suicide and has ruled the death "an accident."
