21 Comforting Baked Dinner Recipes (Photos)

When summer rolls around, we find any old excuse to keep our ovens off, remembering all too well the sweltering heat that invades our kitchen when the oven cranks to 350 degrees during these warm days. But in the cold months of winter, there's nothing better than being in a warm, comforting kitchen; getting extra heat from the work of the oven, and enjoying the wafting smell that invades your home is a perk rather than an inconvenience.

So, with a bit more time until summer rolls around, now's the time to get your ovens cranking and get to cooking some of these flavorful and hearty dishes. Not only is there something inherently comforting about a baked dish, but you don't have to worry about the dish once it's in the oven -- which frees up some time to tend to other tasks.

Check out the gallery below for 21 mouth-watering baked dinner recipes. From the classic chicken pot pie to a tender leg of lamb with winter root veggies, there's a dish for everyone.

Seems to be a lot of people with time on their hands today and not a lot to say.

Maybe it is just me but the meatballs and peas just looked nasty. Most of the other recipes look pretty good and most are variations of things I already make. Made me hungry!

All of the recipes featured sound interesting & probably are worth trying at least once. One of our family favorite dishes is a recipe I found in a Casserole Recipe book many years ago when my sons were teens...they're adults now. The dish is called 'Cheesy Spinach Hash Pie' & although the prep time is a bit putzy, the result is delicious. Not a lot of ingredients...just frozen chopped spinach(cooked), cream of mushroom soup, eggs, flour, horseradish(optional), mustard & flour mixed together & poured over a can of corned beef hash that's been spread in a baked(store-bought) 9" pie crust & baked for 45 minutes, then topped with shredded cheddar cheese & pimentos & baked another 5 minutes to melt the cheese. My husband & younger son ask for it at least a couple of times each winter. Older son is married so not around a lot.

the headline "never cook the same chicken twice". I've never cooked the same chicken twice. I alway start with a new chicken. Did these folks go to college? Or even grammer school?

The turkey meatloaves do look good but my family just does't get excited about meatloaves. I suppose I will miss out on that one. But I think I might try the turkey tamale pie :)
