How To Wear Cropped Trousers: Lessons For A Modern-Day Lady (PHOTOS)

Feminine Cropped Trousers For Spring

There's no denying that many of us favor our staple skinny jeans over any other pant. This season, however, designers are offering up a more classic, dressed-up alternative to everyday denim. Right now, it's all about the cropped trouser. Both feminine and sophisticated, this piece of clothing has been seen on everyone from style icon Audrey Hepburn to modern-day "It" girl Olivia Palermo. Plain black or camel-colored cropped trousers were favored back in the day, but recent versions feature bold prints and jewel tones that are anything but old school. For a casual daytime look, pair them with colorblock flats and a sharp tailored blazer, or dress them up with strappy stilettos and an embellished top. No matter how you decide to style them, the cropped trouser is the ultimate ladylike pant for spring.

Our series, "Lessons For A Modern-Day Lady," explores ways to update your wardrobe and achieve that ladylike look that was so prevalent on the spring 2012 runways. This season calls for more demure, prim and proper attire that harkens back to the '50s and early '60s when longer hemlines, pastel peplum, lace, feathers and mule heels were de rigueur. To master this cool, yet elegant trend, we'll be dispensing some helpful tips for looking chic, sophisticated and fabulously feminine.
