HUFFPOST FUNDRACE -- Tax Cuts For Super PAC Donors, Little American Flags For All

HUFFPOST FUNDRACE -- Tax Cuts For Super PAC Donors, Little American Flags For All

What do you Mitt Romney's super PAC buddies want? HuffPost's Dan Froomkin reports, "Private equity or hedge fund moguls make up more than half of the top donors to Restore Our Future -- the PAC created by former Romney aides to supplement his official campaign with unlimited contributions. Six of them have given $1 million or more each.

The size of their checks, however, is dwarfed by what's at stake for them in November. There may be no other group whose future earnings are more in play, especially should President Barack Obama and congressional Democrats pursue their tax agenda more aggressively and effectively in a second Obama term.

If things don't go their way, they could be hard hit by increased taxes on the rich, a higher tax rate on investment income, and regulations that could expose their secrets and limit their leverage.

Most likely of all, however, they could see a sustained attack on one of the most blatant and exclusive loopholes in the tax code -- something called "carried interest" -- that happens to save them billions of dollars a year."

The Mitt Romney and Newt Gingrich super PACs reported big spending in Super Tuesday states today. Restore Our Future, the pro-Romney super PAC, reported $2.38 million spread across six states and a national cable ad buy. The pro-Gingrich group, Winning Our Future, reports $2.16 million spent in seven states.

The Rick Santorum super PAC is trying to cut into the massive disparity in spending that Santorum will face in Ohio against Romney and the Death Star (the Romney super PAC). Right now that spending disparity is 6-1.

A super PAC funded by donors with conservative leanings is plowing millions into unseating incumbent politicians facing tough primary campaigns.

Super PAC donors are familiar faces who are just giving more than ever.

The FEC deadlocked on yet another case, this time on the issue of whether corporate or union PACs, which can normally only solicit money from their employees or membership, could open a segregated super PAC account to solicit unlimited funds from the public.

Fred Wertheimer joins the discussion to explain how the criticisms of the media for linking Citizens United to super PACs are misleading and inaccurate.

The House Democrats raised more than $1 million in their "War On Women" fundraising drive.
