Just to clarify my previous post, when I used "we" I meant all of us--the whole human community--not a specific group of people. We think we've evolved and have learned to embrace all kinds of differences in others. But maybe we're just pretending when people are watching because it's the "politically correct" way to be. In our homes and around the people closest to us, we relax and show our true selves--the ones who still hate those who are different. That's why I am asking if this is all one big pretense?

Probably plenty....Which now that you bring it up is quite interesting. In the New York section of HP, there's an article about minority's (Latino & Blacks) being excluded from the exams for firemen. New York City is over 75% black, but the majority of the firemen are white, and this goes the same for the police department.

What's so amazing is, if and when you go to predominately white community, the police / fire department reflects that. But in Latino and Black neighborhoods, it's quite the opposite.

Many of these white police officer's and firemen live in white suburbs, and travel upwards of 1 hour to work.....Is it because they love Black and Latino people?

Thuis was a comment made in jest - along with the H.N.I.C. comment that did reference race neither were serious nor indicated this man is in anyway racist. I too get sick and tired of some people blowing casual private remarks way out of proportion and claiming all mannor of rediculious meanings to them.
I have felt for many years that if we could engage in light hearted and good natured kidding remarks most of this race tentin would disappear. In fact I know it would and I have experienced it with coworke3rs that I traveled with for extended periods of time.

It's not like he was he was having a great day because he got to kill a few white people. If a white police chief said the same thing about black people, I wouldn't look twice either. Any day nobody is killed is a good day. It sounded like, from the rest of the conversation, he had his back against the wall in an office matter and had to defend himself from his own people. Now, I'd like to find out who recorded that conversation and why was it released after eight years.

The article ends with a poll offering 3 possible choices. I'd like to choose all 3. What he said was in a private conversation, but would a White police chief in a 90%+ African-American town be given the same leeway? Who is the person so leaked this recording? Probably a man/woman who was passed over for promotion. They had a grudge so they spied on him and then leaked his phone call on to the internet. I'm surprised this hasn't been revealed even though the conversation has been on the internet for 8 years.

Aaaaa, in the context that you are taking about it wouldn't be a joke would it? Whites killed blacks for years without repercussions so the "if he was white and said the same...." is a purely stupid annology. There's never been gangs of hundreds of whites stalking and killing whites, there have been gangs of whites stalking and killing blacks, black children. Yes, I "get" what he's saying AND it was funny. He's in a majority white town, he's black and historically a black person usually doesn't have a chance at public office in that situation. He said it was a GOOD day because he didn't have to kill any white people. That's an endearing sentiment I believe. It implies that his day wouldn't be so good had he been forced to kill white people. It's all love.

Notice there's no reply; many times silence speaks louder than words. Bigoted opinions reveal themselves when challenged with true, consequential equivalence. The funny thing is that the federal judge's actions were FAR more irresponsible than the police chief's comment. Being he was the town's first black police chief, many probably wanted him to be the last. This was nothing more than a political hack job by some jealous, bigoted people who want to bring him down. It's more than coincidental that the comment gets posted on the internet EIGHT YEARS LATER!!! As he plans to move up the later!! Hmmm....
