Bill O'Reilly Attacks Sandra Fluke: 'You Want Me To Give You My Hard-Earned Money So You Can Have Sex?' (VIDEO)

The Huffington Post  |  By Posted: 03/03/12 09:20 AM ET  |  Updated: 03/03/12 09:47 AM ET

Bill Oreilly

Bill O'Reilly waded head-on into the furor surrounding Sandra Fluke, the law student called a "slut" by Rush Limbaugh for advocating for insurance coverage of contraception, on his Friday show, relentlessly attacking Fluke and echoing Limbaugh's argument that she simply wants taxpayers to pay for her sex life.

Limbaugh — who also called Fluke a "prostitute," said that he wanted her to make sex tapes so he could watch, and told her her parents should be "embarrassed" by her — has been making similar claims all week, and has been condemned by politicians, pundits and even some of his own advertisers, who pulled their commercials from his show in the wake of his comments.

None of this seemed to trouble O'Reilly, who, while not mentioning Limbaugh and while not making his points in quite the extreme way Limbaugh did, sided firmly with the radio host in excoriating Fluke.

"Let me get this straight, Ms. Fluke, and I'm asking this with all due respect," he said. "You want me to give you my hard-earned money so you can have sex?" (Fluke is actually calling for her university's private insurance plan to cover birth control.)

O'Reilly went on, saying that, since Fluke wanted society to cover her "activities," the government should also have subsidized his college football uniforms, since an injury might "cost society a lot." He also said that perhaps taxpayers should pay for gym memberships for men so they could stay physically fit.

O'Reilly cast Fluke's viewpoints as an attack on American freedom, concluding that "the progressive colossus is demanding payment for Sandra Fluke so that she can go through Georgetown Law School with an active, healthy social life."

Appaarently the "mass exodus" of advertisers is incorrect. If it were true, the program would not be airing, or the time on air would have been severely curtailed. Neither has happened.
The number of markets that still carry the program is the same as prior to the comment, and there has been no loss of national advertisers as of now.
Before putting out misinformation, (unless it is done to intentionally mislead) that which is made public should be properly vetted.
Radio stations locally are constantly losing/adding advertisers. It happens all the time.
As for the "private insurance" of the college, that too is errant. The school is Catholic and is free to follow the dictates of it's founding principles which in this case are based on religious beliefs.
Fluke and/or her friend should pack their bags and transfer to a school where contraceptives are available through the school insurance.

Reality is the more this story continues the more people who have not watched (myself included) or seldom watched his show are going to find the need to check it out, until this article I had heard of O'Reilly, a few bad comments but nothing too extreme, now I need to watch a few of his shows just to see what all the excitement is about. I'm sure the publicity is doing as much good if not more than bad for his ratings, and advertisers go where the money is, that is a fact, so I tend to believe u, regardless, I now need to watch a few of his shows, where before all this ridiculous ranting, I doubt I would have changed anything viewing wise !

Why is this issue even viewed this way? The problem is world over-population! Both sides of the "act that makes babies" deserves the best care and neither should have to bear the responsibility or brunt of the expense! When their choice is to NOT BRING ANOTHER UNWANTED OR CHERISHED CHILD into the world, that choice should not include picking-up the tab, as well. All Americans, both men and women deserve the best.

What u are stating is a belief, nothing more, if u are going to use the religious card, then that is not the way to go about it, and if u are that religious, then u would also know. U are not to judge, also god forgives all who sin and ask forgiveness, so again your above statement has no validity. I myself do believe in god, however I also believe in preventing suffering, which would happen without contraceptives. Overpopulation leads to famine, so unless u feel, people are made to suffer, u might just want to think about this. I don't go by any particular version of the bibles(specific faith), which by the way, each religions bible was written by a different disciple, and who's to say which disciple's version is right. These writings were written in a different language 100's of years after these disciples had already died, so much of things were lost in translation, and some sensationalism went into them as well when written, they have also been altered to conform with each particular religion, so how can u pretend to know whether or not she can or cannot decide who is born and who is not(birth control), do u know for a fact which disciple writings were the correct ones?
10:27 PM on 04/24/2012
The world is over-populated? Apparently you haven't driven through the vast emptiness that is the America Mid-West.
12:40 PM on 03/08/2012
Will you or somebody else please get the fact out that Fluke opened her speech with the need to have her contraceptives paid for. Those contraceptives were to prevent pregnancies. Later she brought out her real reason for being there. She wanted insurance companies to cover birth control for women who have menstrual problems, such as cramps, irregular cycle, and such. No matter what that fact should be pointed out. She did not present her facts correctly.

08:35 AM on 03/09/2012
Bill O'Really doesn't have an opinion!!! He's just a proparganda spokesperson!!! He talks and acts like its his money all the time!!! Well, 1 Its not just his money its all who pay for health insurance, 2 Id much rather pay a small price for contraception than and abortion or pay for the kids housing, clothing, food, heathcare and schooling!!! What I want is for Bill O'Really to pay the same percentage of taxes that I do working as a janitor at night for Walmart!!! And trust me Walmart breacks your blank at night because they know the Republicans sent all are jobs over seas!!!
02:53 AM on 03/08/2012
Taxpayers are not paying for OCPs. It is a mandate for private health insurances to cover OCPs. If your employer buys health insurance for its employees, then that particular health insurance should cover for OCPs among other medications. And oral contraceptives ARE used for other reasons besides birth control.
10:32 AM on 03/08/2012
You are missing the point. Do you understand how insurance works? Who do you think pays the premiums that give the insurer the money to pay for the OCPs? If your employer covers part of that premium, that is money your employer could otherwise be paying you. It is part of the total cost of employing you. Either way, the money for OCPs is coming out of every employee's pocket. Who cares if it in the form of taxes or insurance premium?

Since NEITHER males nor females GET PREGNANT without the other's involvement...both sides deserve the medical care, services and products that address the 'world population issues'...don't let one side worry about what the other side gets...Award MALES AND FEMALES equally for their ACTIONS to prevent the consequences of their right to sexual freedom...ultimately an unwanted pregnancy results in a child no one cherishes...these are the ones most often abused, neglected, killed
12:08 AM on 03/11/2012
Well if taking your position that everyone is paying for women's B/C pill, which I don't believe is an accurate assessment, then I guess we're all paying for O'Reilly's viagra that is covered by insurance. But, the above mentioned hypocrite-in-chief had the nerve to claim that viagra is covered due to medical problems. So, this man is not intelligent enough to understand that B/C pills are in many cases used for medical problems. No one, regardless of their religious views, has the right to dictate to others what type of health insurance should or should not be covered.
08:29 PM on 03/07/2012
i wounder if people had to pay for their own medical bills when they get pregnant and for the complete cost of Dr.and hospital, would they wine to pay for their own bcp or whatever they decide to use ,

He's No. 1 on TV. You're not going to take down the King of his prime time slot. Just like Rush is No. 1 on the radio, and all attempts to take Limbaugh down have falied.

The tallest tales my daughters tell me all start the same way....so and so had a friend who...

Fluke's presentation to the Democratic committee members cannot be construed as testimony. There were no corroborating witnesses, no cross examination, no evidence presented. What she offered up was hearsay. Even a third year law student know that.

Fluke went to Georgetown and formed a student group specifically aimed at altering the University's stance on inclusion of birth control in its student health plan. I have no issue with that, I support her freedom to do that. But when an advocate for a cause tells a bunch of stories that support that cause, yet provides no names, and no evidence that can be verified, then I'm sure other enlightened readers of the Huffington Post would pause and reflect on her stated goals before taking everything she said at face value.

I need to go,my daughter wants to tell me another story.
10:28 AM on 03/07/2012
I feel sorry for your daughters having a father who doesn't care about thier reproductive health and looks at them at as liars. I guess those are your good coservative values at work
07:45 AM on 03/08/2012
Perhaps you can't read well. My daughters weren't the one's telling the lie. It was the friend who told the lie, my daughters only related the stories to me. Lack of attention to detail seems to be common among those with progressive values who attack my posts on this site. You are in good company.

Your comment about my interest in the health care of my daughters is out of bounds. You should be ashamed of yourself (or is that type of speech applauded in progressive circles if a conservative is the target. I'll bet you cheered Bill Maher's misogynistic rants about Sarah Palin, you hypocrite). I'm surprised the moderator let your comment through (after 8 hours). They refused to post some of my comments that were far less personal in their attacks. And they say there is no bias in the liberal main stream media, ha!
08:09 AM on 03/08/2012
My wife (a liberal) and I are raising our daughters to be free thinkers, not sheep. Were either of them to come to me and tell me they were considering taking a job offer, but the health plan didn't cover birth control, I would tell them that insurance is a job benefit, just like the vacation and retirement plan contributions. If they aren't happy with the benefits, then don't take the job. However, if that is the ONLY reason they aren't happy with the job offer, then consider taking the job and paying the $9 a month for their own birth control. Maybe they will have to lower the download limit on their cell phone plan or dump HBO from their cable plan to afford it. Or maybe three less cups of Starbucks a month. Stating that anyone who does not support inclusion of birth control in every health plan means that person doesn't care about reproductive health (a misnomer in that sense) of women because birth control is too expensive is a canard. It just isn't true no matter how many times you jump up and down and scream that it is.

For full disclosure, I am an employer with 18 employees. Our health plan includes birth control because that is my choice to do so.

Do you really think these Congressional "hearings" are there to discern the truth? They are there for those wonderful photo ops. Those moments where you have the camera poised in order to get a sound bit or a serious look from a Congressman.

Remember, most of this would not have happened if they allowed Fluke on the first Congressional "hearing".
05:09 PM on 03/08/2012
No. Truth and Congress are mutually exclusive terms to me. The party in power is irrelevant. I did not mean to imply there was any more truth obtained from the Republican's committee testimony than from the Democrat's committee testimony. It's all just spin spin spin while the nation goes round and round till we puke.

Then find, and buy, a healthcare plan that doesn't cover erectile dysfunction . Do you consider not being pregnant an illness, disease, or injury?
10:02 AM on 03/07/2012
ED is not an illness, injury or disease just because pharma says so. ED means you are old and too feeble to engage in sex.

Now, I do not believe that, but it is as ridiculous as B.O'R and Rush's rants.

WOW...just like children...! Take this issue UP A NOTCH...call it something gender-neutral; cover and provide the best care options and let each American make personal choices to address WORLD POPULATION instead of providing distention between the participants... If the goal is sex without consequences, both sides deserve equal protection from the consequences.
