Pepper Jack Cheese, The New Trendy Fast Food Ingredient?

Posted: Updated:

Sandwiches and products with Pepper Jack cheese are on fire, according to USA Today. People are craving the spicy cheese, especially Millennials, says research firm Datamonitor.

For those not familiar with the cheese, Pepper Jack cheese consists of Monterey Jack cheese typically blended with jalapenos and bell peppers. "It's one of the fastest-growing cheeses we've ever seen," Steve Evans, marketing vice president of Blimpie, told USA Today.

In the past four years, the appearance of Pepper Jack on fast food sandwiches has jumped more than 37 percent (burger growth is at 56 percent!). In addition to a sandwich ingredient, the cheese is now seen in everything from Pepper Jack Cheez-Its to Pepper Jack Nut Thins.

This supposed Pepper Jack craze isn't limited to just North America. McDonald's Austria newest sandwich -- the McRibster -- boasts the cheese as well.
