Sandra Fluke Dismisses Rush Limbaugh's Apology

Sandra Fluke, the Georgetown University law school student at the heart of the debate over contraception, dismissed Rush Limbaugh's apology for calling her a "slut."

Fluke appeared on ABC's "The View" on Monday to discuss Limbaugh's apology, which she said she believes the conservative radio host only issued because of pressure from his show's sponsors.

"I don't think that a statement like this, issued saying that his choice of words was not the best, changes anything. Especially when that statement is issued when he's under significant pressure from his sponsors, who have begun to pull support from his show," Fluke said.

Eight companies -- including AOL, the parent company of The Huffington Post -- have parted ways with Limbaugh since he made the harsh remarks about Fluke.

Fluke said she was "shocked and stunned" when she heard about Limbaugh's comments.

"I think any woman who has ever been called these types of names is [shocked] at first," Fluke said. "But then I tried to see this for what it is, and I believe that what it is is an attempt to silence me, to silence the millions of women and the men who support them who have been speaking out about this issue and conveying that contraception is an important health care need that they need to have met in an affordable, accessible way."

On Friday, Obama called Fluke to thank her for speaking out on the controversial issue. White House Press Secretary Jay Carney said the president felt "the kinds of personal attacks that have been directed her way have been inappropriate."

Some facts for the ignorant:
BC coverage in question is part of a financial transaction between the insured and private insurer (HMO).

Taxpayers do not pay for any of it. Paid for with employer contributions (partial) and employee co-pays, deductibles and premium contributions.

It is cheaper for HMOs to cover BC rather than covering an unintended pregnancy. Cheaper for  Read More...

Is she suggesting that birth control is a necessity and not a luxury in people's lives? Are we that dependent on the government that we can't even be responsible enough to pay for extras in our lives?!?! I understand that less than 5% of women would need this sort of medication for medical reasons but to blanket this and say that contraceptives for all women will be on the government's dime is an absolute joke. I can think of a great form of birth control that doesn't need insurance; condoms. Let's use our brain America!

Are you liberal fools STILL posting about this liberal "activist"? Get some lives, Obama is still going to lose. Most of the real world worries about the skyrocketing fuel prices, but I forgot all of you are on govt checks so it's no concern. Look at it this way: You'll get a bigger one if you have kids.

Sandra Fluke should sue for defamation of character - then donate her settlement to Planned Parenthood in Rush's name.

Wow...I wonder where the liberal media and National Organization for Women (NOW) are when “Republican” woman are called horrendous names! Cut it out Ms. Fluke! Go back to your Georgetown classroom and quit being a fraud. I sure hope one day you get to afford your birth control. You are the reason the country is doing so poorly. Enjoy your ride for now. You should be ashamed of yourself. How about giving free legal advice if you graduate...you poor thing!

If you ever read anything outside the right wing bubble, perhaps you'd be aware the liberal media and NOW both slammed Maher, at the time, a year ago. You haven't heard anyone condemning him recently because it was A YEAR AGO. As you haven't gotten the basic information you're pretending to be outraged about correct, I think we can safely assume your opinion is irrelevant.

To all the Rush fans, you know who started this, right? The GOP, did ya'll forget about that hearing with all the male clergy men, who sparks this debate? The GOP had to have that contraception hearing, so they call the clergy men, but no women were ask to speak. That's how Fluke became involved, the Dems asked her speak because of the GOP. This wasn't a plan by Obama or the Dem, the GOP wouldn't let women speak at the GOP called. This was not a DEM hearing, it was a GOP hearing. That's hearing took place weeks ago, if Ms. Fluke would have said anything controversial, would it had been news worthy? Ms. Fluke wasn't in the news for anything she said, think about it. If Ms. Fluke said anything closed to anything Rush claimed to had said, would had Fox News wait for weeks to report on it? Rush waited or wasn't aware about what Ms. Fluke said until weeks after the facts, Rush lied and twisted everything she said. MS. Fluke was out of the news, until Rush put her back in the news.

It wsn't a contraception hearing it was abaout religious freedom. Sandra Fluke is not an expert witness concerning that subject thus she was irrelevent the the discussion thereof. Get your facts straight!

But 98% of women in that faith uses contraception, so whos religious freedom being taken away? Also contraception is part of the agrument. Again, these anti government want everybody out of their lives, but have no problem telling people how to live their lives. Folks bring up the Constitution all the time, but only to agree with their argument. All I hear is "I" from these people. They don't want the government in their lives, but they have no problem telling you who to pray to, who to sleep with, what to think or anything they believe in they want to force the government to make folks feel the same way. THeir freedom is a country that just like them, just for a few, while everyone else stays the underclass. Freedom is not about taking another person freedom. Some of these fools who scream about "freedom", should really be happy to be in a country where you can say whatever you want. Do these fools know what's freedom? Most of these tea party folks are the richest people(not all) in the country, what freedom have they lost? What are they complaining about? They have more freedom than most in this country. It's not envy at all, but if I had the wealth, I would just get on my knees. I would be so thankful knowing other people aren't so blessed. Whenever you can choose where you want to go, or you can think how you want to, then you're free.

Rush is in the process of erasing his archives of his slanderous comments about Ms. Fluke. Good thing the videos are still on the internet. Rush can't escape from his vile, vicious, and obscene behavior, regardless of what he does.

Those are free PSAs. Rush and Clear Channel get no revenue from them. Actually it's a good thing because they are about social issues and that gives more airtime to important messages. It must irk Rush to hear spots about education and health during the breaks.

What happened to seperation of church and state? These debatable political topics (birth control, abortion) are only debatable because religious groups/people have an issue with them. Why is that even allowed?? Religious beliefs aren't supposed to be impacting our laws.

No, you have it backwards, our laws are not to interfere with religious beliefs, go read the constitution it isn't that hard to understand! Obama bsically told the Catholic church, "to hell with your beliefs, I'm in charge now!"
09:08 AM on 03/09/2012
No, I don't have it backwards. There are many religions in this country which all have different beliefs. If our laws were made to appease every one of them, there'd be no way to get any laws passed. Laws must be made according to the majority need of society and religion shouldn't have a place in those decisions. If a person thinks it's morally wrong to take birth control, then don't take it. No one is forcing it down their throats. I know they are "paying for it" by being in an insurance pool. There are plenty of other things they pay for by being in that pool that is morally wrong and they pay for that. The bible says not to abuse your body but insurance pays for copd and cancer treatment for lung issues due to smoking. Insurance pays for liver treatment for alcoholics. So really if you single out one then you'd have to consider all and it's just not possible. And by the way the Catholic church needs to be told about themselves. I was raised Catholic and went to Catholic school my whole life, including a Catholic college. Guess what? Nothing but a bunch of hypocritical nonsense. (Not the religion, but the people who enforce their own agenda) And that's what the Catholic church is, enforcing their own agenda that really has nothing to do with the religion and all to do with money, power, and control.

So we should adopt the 10 commandments as our laws right?!
