'Alcatraz': Ames Brothers Searching For Gold On The Rock (VIDEO)

Treasure Hunt On 'Alcatraz'

With Fox's Monday night drama "Terra Nova" officially canceled after one season, the network is going to be paying particular attention to the ratings of "Alcatraz" (Mon., 8 p.m. EST on Fox). And with a two-hour block of episodes this week, they'll have more data than usual to ponder. Fans can either see this as the network trying to burn through the remaining episodes of the under-performing series, or perhaps view it as an opportunity for the show to possibly reach more viewers with an extended outing.

Things were kept mostly procedural, though, with very little progress on the main plotline. The first installment featured the Ames brothers, who were on a fifty-year treasure hunt on the Rock. During their time on the island in the '60s, they orchestrated an elaborate escape with one of the guards in their attempt to find the secret room that supposedly held gold.

Then, upon their return, they got right back to it, despite the presence of Hauser and his team. Perhaps they didn't realize they weren't alone on the island, or perhaps they just didn't care. Either way, they managed to capture Soto and shoot Hauser before they were both taken down. But their accomplice from 50 years ago was back as well, and he made it all the way to the room where the gold was supposed to be ... only the room is empty today. A parting shot of the warden showed that the gold had been there at one time.

The second hour featured Theo Rossi ("Sons of Anarchy") as a kidnapper turned violent killer who goes out for revenge on his victim/accomplice from half a century ago. After discovering that she'd stolen the money he'd hidden in a field back then, he kidnapped her daughter and buried her in the same field. Unfortunately, for all his confidence, she was found relatively quickly and his rampage came to a quick end.

"Alcatraz" airs next Monday at 9 p.m. EST on Fox, before returning to its regular 8 p.m. EST time the following week.
