Virginia Primary 2012 Results MAP: County-By-County Results As They Come In (REAL-TIME DATA)

In Virginia only two candidates are going to appear on the GOP presidential primary ballot on Super Tuesday, and as a result it looks likely that Mitt Romney will walk away with the state's 49 Republican delegates.

Newt Gingrich and Rick Santorum's campaigns were unable to gather the 10,000 valid signatures needed by the filing deadline to get on the ballot, so they will not be listed on the ballot. Ron Paul was able to gather enough support in time.

However, according to a Roanoke College poll, Mitt Romney has held a commanding 56 percent of the likely vote in the state, while Paul has only about 21 percent support.

The former Massachusetts governor's lead may be misleading, however. CNN has reported that, were Gingrich and Santorum on the ballot, Romney's margin would be much smaller, 31 percent, with Santorum at 27 percent. These results indicate a level of skepticism as similar polls also showed a larger unfavorable rating (37 percent) for Romney than favorable (36 percent) in the state.

The lack of candidates on the ballot has made many supporters in the state feel somewhat cheated, according to the Huntington-BelleHaven Patch. "The primary would have been more lively with more candidates on the GOP ballot," Anthony Bedell, chairman of the Fairfax County Republican Committee, told the site. "That being said, the rules to get on the ballot have been in place for some time. All the campaigns were aware of the rules and what they had to do to qualify for the ballot on March 6th."

While other states may get more attention, the large number of delegates Romney is likely to garner from the state will be a significant boost to his chances of winning the GOP nomination and stopping a surging Santorum.
