Kate Middleton Consignment Dress: The Duchess Goes Thrifting, Apparently (PHOTOS)

The Huffington Post   First Posted: 03/07/2012 2:37 pm Updated: 03/07/2012 2:45 pm

BREAKING: The Duchess of Cambridge goes thrifting.

UK magazine Grazia did some sleuthing on that gray coat dress that Catherine wore to the National Portrait Gallery. We knew it was from a label called Jesire, but what we didn't know was that the label is now defunct. So... where did Duchess Kate score the dress?

Apparently, Kate picked up her Jesire frock at a secondhand store. That's right: even duchesses can't resist the lure of a good vintage find.

Grazia reports that Kate got the dress at a store in Berkshire called The Stock Exchange, near the Middletons' home in Bucklebury. Sadly, Her Royal Highness didn't pop into the shop herself: she reportedly sent her assistant on a secret trip:

'She bought the Jesire dress from here - we remember having it in and were really excited when we saw Kate on TV wearing it,' one shop assistant said last week. 'None of the Middletons have ever come into the store though, so Kate must have a secret shopper. Whoever it is, we hope she continues shopping here!'

Of course, the only way to prove 100% that THAT was the dress Kate wore to the art gallery is if Kate announces it herself. There must have been other copies of that dress produced.

But still. STILL.

And, there's more big Kate thrifting news: she reportedly scored that M Missoni frock from her royal girls' day out at a Missoni outlet store. Amazing.

That's right, one lucky charitable lady out there: Kate Middleton is now probably wearing your old dress in front of the entire world.

Everyone else, start going through your closets stat; maybe your discarded frock will soon be gracing some famous royal shoulders.

Check out some more photos of Kate's allegedly second-hand dress below, and click over to Grazia to read more about how she purchased it.

One of the sexiest women. Love those eyes and dimples. But, she has to keep her sister in line. After getting all that publicity during the wedding, Pippa has taken that popularity too far. Some say, they prefer Pippa to Kate. Are you freakin kidding. If you can envision them at age 40, Pippa will look like an angry housewifle with a crater face.

The first time the pictures were shown of this dress I loved it. It has some really great details and more than that, she looks great in it! It was a perfect choice for that occasion too.

Let the less fortunate shop there. Kate can well afford to pay full price. I'm not impressed. It's like ultra rich kids taking scholarship money for college when their parents can afford to pay the tuition three times over.

Get over yourself, if it's only available second hand and you want it buy it, anyone can be thrifty no matter how much money they have or don't have. They sell, anyone can buy, is that a new concept?

Sometimes thrift stores support a charity. Until you know better, don't be mean.

I love consignment shops...you can find some really cool clothes, shoes and handbags there for a fraction of their retail cost. I scored a beautiful vintage Dior cocktail dress for $75 and all I had to do was get the cropped brocade jacket fixed. I also scored designer shoes that had only been worn once...they retailed for $1700 and got them for $100. I later had the dress appraised and I scored big time. There's one here near LA called Decades and it is like landing in a fashion candy store. Some of the clothes come from collectors, studios, TV shows, estate sales etc...and they've either been worn only once or not at all. Don't turn your nose up at thrifting as the British call it, until you try it. I love that coat dress she's wearing and good for her.

Scored, scored, scored, what are you shopping or playing in the NFL? Also, HOW DO YOU KNOW the shoes were only worn once?! Did you track down the person who consigned and ask them. That's just dumb you no know how many times the shoes were worn.

Even when Kate shows good common sense and is thrifty, setting a great example, HP cannot keep the snarkiness out of the main headline. Give the lady a break. She's never less than courteous and elegant.

Give Kate a break and I am sure now she will never shop again at the Stock Exchange
