'I'm Getting Arrested' Smartphone App For Undocumented Immigrants Under Way (VIDEO)

In the state that signed into law the country's most controversial and stringent immigration measure, SB-1070 in 2010, a new smartphone app is under way to help undocumented immigrants notify friends and family of their exact location, should they be pulled over and arrested.

Much like another Android application that was developed for Occupy Wall Street activists, this app would send a pre-set message to all those concerned, including their local consulate and attorneys.

As New American Media reports, this version of eApp (Emergency Alert & Protection Program), is the work of two Arizona immigrant rights organizations who see a need in expediting communication.

“It’s difficult,” says Lydia Guzman, Executive Director of the non-profit Respect-Respeto in South Phoenix, Arizona. “We try to get all of this information from them to reach their family, while at the same time we’re trying to advise them about their rights.”

Respect-Respeto runs a 24-hour hotline for undocumented immigrants seeking information about their rights.

Similarly, this application would provide users with information about their right to remain silent and have an attorney present during questioning in English and Spanish. And, like many standard cell phones with photo capabilities, the eApp would send photos and video to a web interface for their contacts to access.

Todd Landfried of the Arizona Employers for Immigration Reform (AEIR), a statewide coalition of businesses working for comprehensive immigration reform, says of the project: “This is about protecting people. Everybody has rights, whether you like it or not.”

The two organizations have started an online fundraising campaign to support the cost of development. For more information about the eApp's development, visit the project’s website.

The APP contacts the Mexican Consulate and asks them to make an apology.

The race card really does work very well in this country. No matter that people have broken the law. THAT should be overlooked. And when it's not, well dang it, it must because we are racist!!!

So if you were brought here at a young age, and had your roots here and lived here all your life, you would think you were a criminal. Criminal activity requires malice, I doubt a 2 year old understands what he/she is doing.

Refer to the law in Mexico. There are no exceptions.

Don't they need another app that sends a message to their country of origin that reads: "Alert, no more illegally earned Yankee dollars coming back for an unknown time"?
Or a second app the sends a message to their country of origin that asks the question: Hey if you want me back come get me. Hello? Hello? Is anyone there? Hello? Please answer or call me back"

Will they be able to pre-select their seat assignment for their flight back to Mexico? Aisle or window? The guys who are caught later get stuck in the middle seats.

"Everybody has rights, whether you like it or not.”

But not the right to reside in this country without authorization, whether you like it or not. Which you obviously don't.

E-verify and I-9 audits are far more righteous and legitimate uses of anglo-invented technology than the "They discovered I'm an illegal alien - get Luis Gutierrez on the phone!" app.

Someone give my people in Mexico an Honest Government app, a Family Planning app and a Respect for America's Borders app.

Who is Luis Gutierrez? He's going to hell too if he don't stop his wrong doing, God has His eyes on Luis Gutierrez and he has to answer too like everyone does. All evildoers will not get by God's judgement, and running back to Mexico to hide will not work.

"In American politics, the Southern strategy refers to the Republican Party strategy of winning elections in Southern states by exploiting anti-African American racism and fears of lawlessness among Southern white voters and appealing to fears of growing federal power in social and economic matters."

The Republican Strategy in 2012 seems to be targeting Hispanics/Latinos, and it looks like is working well among its base; just take a look at some the comments.

Seem like the Republican strategy of promoting hatred against Latinos/Hispanics is working very well among its base:

Tea Party
Minuteman
KKK
Sara Palin
Religious-conservatie-extremist
Arizona
Alabama
Fox News audience.
and regressive minds...

The Republican Hatred Strategy is working well, just read some of the comments in this page.

If your suggested enlightned-self & bigoted-mind allows you, can you tell me what well informed is, in this case?

When compared with the groups listed below, I don't think any of your posted groups can match the base of:
LaRza
AZTLAN
Mexican SALAFI Islam
MECHA
LULAC
Dar Es Salam of Mexico
MALDEF
What a group of friends and supporters you have.
And if I may I have adjusted your comment to read: The "Latin" Hatred Strategy is working well, just read some of the comments in this page.

I know that Times r Tough, but it does not excuse you or anyone from hating other people based on race.
Moreover, the groups you poorly listed do NOT promote hate as the KKK, Minuteman, Tea Party, etc..
Maybe you have learned to believe otherwise, but if you want to see for Yourself you are more than welcome to join? After all, I don't have any reasons to dislike you, much less to hate you. Peace!

This is so dope! There should be an option to Migra Spot, as in take a picture of checkpoints, border patrol and ICE vehicles so people can have a heads up of where agents are trying to make a living from other's suffering.

I wonder if you have to press 1 for English or 2 for ILLEGAL. I am unemployed and can't even get insurance for my 10 yr old daughter cause they said I make too much money. But if you come here illegally you get it all free including a drivers license. Pay the Coyote to take them back or better yet stop them from coming across and working here undocumented and sending their money back home.

Now it turns out, if an illegal alien gets sent to prison in California, and suffers a 'disability' in prison, they can collect disability~!

No wonder CA is broke. Broke.

Actually, there is a CA prison near the Mexican border. They have a much bigger problem with people breaking in than breaking out.

If you are in this country "illegally", doesn't that mean that you are NOT a citizen and you don't have "rights" of those who are citizens? Why are we always so worried about their "rights"? They don't have any!!!
05:16 PM on 03/09/2012
Everyone within the borders of the US are protected under the Constitution.

I take it when you say "they don't have any" rights, you really mean that they shouldn't have any rights? Right?
05:46 PM on 03/09/2012
The only right they should have is the right to go home.

I would prefer to agree with you across the board. We need a solid clarification for this and inmates in the prisons as well. If they don't participate legally in society, they don't receive the benefits of citizenship. Enough is enough.

And please make a Polish/Eastern European version! We got lots of this ilk over by here!

How about an app explaining the law to them? They are breaking the law. The person selling this app should be arrested.
01:26 PM on 03/09/2012
You don't seem to understand Federal law. No Federal law criminalizes remaining in the country without authorization to do so.
01:44 PM on 03/09/2012
Didn't they break the law by crossing the border? You are trying to split hairs. If someone enters your house while you are on vacation and sets up residence, do they live there? Are you now required to feed and clothe them and educate them? What if you can't afford to? Are you required to take care of their children?
