Rod Blagojevich Prepares To Begin Prison Sentence, Plans To Address The Public (VIDEO)

Blagojevich To Speak With Media Before Reporting To Prison

A spokesman for Rod Blagojevich said this week that the former Illinois Governor plans to address the public one more time before he leaves Chicago to begin his 14-year prison sentence in Colorado next week.

Spokesman Glenn Selig did not tell the Associated Press what the former governor will say or when specifically he will say it, but the news arrives at a time when Blagojevich has been unusually media-shy. Since he was convicted of 18 charges of corruption last December, he has not granted any interviews and rumor had it that he hoped to slip out of the city without any additional fanfare.

Blagojevich first broke his post-sentencing silence Tuesday in a brief interview with Fox Chicago conducted as he left his home for a morning jog. He said that "when calamity strikes, and you have to deal with catastrophic circumstances ... I think one of the ways to get through it is to embrace the blessings that you have in your life." He went on to note that he feels "blessed to have two precious daughters, a wonderful wife who is a wonderful mother."

Patti Blagojevich has also avoided the media spotlight in the months since her husband was sentenced, but last week she spoke with Rosie O'Donnell on the "The Rosie Show." In that interview, she maintained her husband's innocence and opened up about how her husband's arrest has impacted their marriage and family life.
