Redskins, Rams Trade Draft Picks, Likely Sending Robert Griffin III To Washington: REPORT

According to Jay Glazer of Fox Sports, the Washington Redskins have already moved on from the Peyton Manning Derby. Glazer tweeted on Friday night that the Redskins have agreed to a trade with the St. Louis Rams that would put them in position to draft Heisman Trophy-winning Baylor quarterback Robert Griffin III.

Major scoopage: Redskins have agreed to a trade w Rams for pick of draft. Rams and Skins swap (cont)

The extended text of Glazer's tweet (via TwitLonger) indicated that the Redskins were sending the No. 6 selection in the 2012 NFL Draft, two future No. 1 picks and additional selections in exchange for the Rams' No. 2 overall pick in the upcoming draft.

While the Denver Broncos, the Miami Dolphins and several other teams are just beginning their courtships of free agent quarterback Peyton Manning, the Skins were reportedly out of the running almost immediately.

According to Chris Russell of ESPN 980 in DC, the four-time NFL MVP has no interest in joining the Redskins despite the fact that the franchise reportedly intended to make an "aggressive effort" to sign him.

With Manning apparently unlikely to be lured to the Beltway, the Redskins have, per Glazer, gone aggressively in another direction. Just two days before Glazer tweeted about this deal, Wes Bunting of the National Football Post projected that Washington would trade up in the draft to select RG3 in the No. 2 slot. After Glazer's tweet, NFL media and fans quickly began weighing in on all aspects of the deal.

Chris Mortensen
heckuva move to - basically two 1st rounders and 2nd rounder. RG3 is ideal Shanahan QB. Manning was never going Skins or Jets

Adam Schefter
Redskins-Rams trade cannot be processed until Tuesday but Dan Snyder and Stan Kroenke signed off on agreement: three 1s and a 2 for No. 2.

Albert Breer
And for those who think the Redskins are crazy ... I'm told there were multiple teams outside of Washington bidding in that range for RG3.

Bill Barnwell
One hidden advantage of doing the trade now -- if Colts announce Luck deal at , Redskins can slip RG3 the playbook a few weeks early.

Horrible move.

Shanahan, terrible/medicore coach.

RGIII moves up to the #2 on the draft board/possibly going to the Redskins?

Oh no.

Shanahan isn't the great coach everyone makes him out to be. Only reason for his status/legacy/reputation is because of John Elway/Terrell Davis who carried Denver to Super Bowl wins/securing Shanahan as a "great" NFL coach.

Shanahan left Denver, been down hill ever since. After Elway's retirement and Davis' career-ending injuries, Shanahan went seven years without a playoff win (including three seasons when the Broncos didn't even make the playoffs), a drought which caused much criticism from fans.

With Washington, he's medicore.

Hs relationships/ability to lead/motivate has been problematic for him. Case in point, former QB's McNabb/Jason Campbell/defensive tackle Albert Haynesworth.

RGIII's first exposure to the NFL with Shanahan/starting QB, his progressions/experience will be hampered because unlike Andrew Luck who will probably be a Colt be given every opportunity to pass/fail for the entire season as the starter, Shanahan won't allow RGIII the same; learn from his mistakes as the starter game after game in order to improve.

First sign of trouble, Shanahan benches RGIII and criticize him in the press.

For RGIII to win, ensure the offensive line is capablle of good adequate protection; time needed to execute plays, not just rely on his physical gifts; speed to run/strong arm to complete passes.

RGIII/Shanahan/Redskins? Not a good fit at all.

After watching Griffin perform this year I agree that he's a pretty good prospect, but no way should be such a high draft pick or, more importantly, someone who the Skin's should mortgage the future over......There's too much downside for Washington as I see it.....

Danny-boy sure likes to win the Spring-Bowl (off season super bowl) . Danny just can't stand not having his team in the limelight in the offseason. That is a lotta picks. MAYBE though this will work out for once in team history.

RG3 is an incredible prospect.. Too bad his career is doomed in a city with a horrible owner and outdated coaching.

Please stay away from the Washington Football Team. The ownership is awful. The place is not good for your football career.

Griffin is an undersized Vince Young, who played his college ball at a lesser school. Not only did Washington give up 3 #1 picks (and a #2), but these are Washington picks--guaranteed to be high picks. This is why the Skins are cellar dwellers, and will remain so.

Sure would be sweet to be a Rams fan right now. The draft is always a fun time for football fans, and the Rams fan's are going to be in Nirvana for the next three years with all their high round draft pics.

And with that, the Vikings can secure Matt Kalil, unless Rick Spielman goes all "Rick Spielman" and trades down for a lesser talent.

I initially was for Peyton for the Skins in DC, but the more i read about this kid, the more i like him, and believe he will make the difference, and a great deal. The team is due for a rebuild why not start with him. Time to clean that house.

RG3 will be amazing...if the Redskins put some talent around him.

Now let's see if Washington can't bolster the offensive line and make a few moves in free agency. You know Dan Snyder has the money, and he's $40 million under the cap. This, at least, makes Washington football interesting again..at least for the offseason and a few games.

Thank you, Lord. Going after Peyton Manning made as much sense as resigning Heath Shuler. One must admit, being fleet of foot not exactly a disadvantage on this squad.
