Sarah Palin Tells Sean Hannity That Obama Wants To Take America Back To Days 'Before The Civil War' (VIDEO)

On Sean Hannity's Fox News show last night, former Alaska Governor Sarah Palin claimed that Barack Obama wants to return American to discrimination similar to that of the days "before the Civil War."

ThinkProgress captured the video from the show, which delved into the supposedly unseemly college years of President Obama. So far, the response to a much hyped-old video of a speech in which Obama praises Derrick Bell, the pioneering and controversial law professor — which included a hug between the two — has yielded a collective shrug.

Here's Palin on the Obama/Bell connection:

Now, it has taken all these years for many Americans to understand that that gravity, that mistake, took place before the Civil War and why the Civil War had to really start changing America. What Barack Obama seems to want to do is go back to before those days when we were in different classes based on income, based on color of skin.

The controversy around Obama's support for Derrick Bell posits that the president was a supporter with Bell, a staunch and influential advocate of affirmative action and diversity in hiring. Bell was a pioneer of critical race theory, which examines the way the relationship between law and power. At the rally, Obama compared Bell to Rosa Parks.

I thought she was trying to convince us that her trainwreck of an interview with Katie Couric was an anomaly. Once again she inserts her foot into her mouth. Will someone with the right connections please contact SNL about making this stupid statement into a skit? Imagine as they canvas the country in search of one black person who yearns for the pre-Civil War era. Dave Chappelle could illustrate the utter absurdity of this with a terrific skit, too.

If Palin were a comedienne, then I could better understand the attention-seeking, ridiculous hyperbole. However, she wishes to be viewed as a serious political analyst and pundit, so what gives?

Sarah Palin is the kind of person who keeps coming back for more -- abuse, that is. She can't have it both ways. That is, appear on a television cast and express untruths, and not expect someone to respond in kind to the untruth. In my view, she's not a very educated person in spite of her attending college. What did she learn? I can't imagine journalism being her major. That isn't possible because half the time she appears on air, and opens up her mouth, I find it extremely difficult to follow the comments eminating from her mouth. That is, it isn't clear what she's trying to convey.

Does Ms. Palin know what it was like before the Civil War? Honestly, does she know why we even fought the Civil War? I ask because I actually sat through the HBO Movie the 'Game Change' and it did not paint her in the best light as far as knowledge of American and International history. In her defense, the movie showed her as a woman of great faith,a mother, a wife who is driven, self motivated and deterrmined. However, these qualities do not make a good politician. She did enjoy her share of Diet Dr. Pepper and so do I!

The characterization of Sarah Palin portrayed in "Game Change" suggests a woman significantly lacking in historical knowledge, yet eager to exploit racial animosity to further her political gains.

We are in different classes based on income. Has she ever heard the terms upper class, middle lass, lower class, or socioeconomic? And as far as color of skin goes we all know that racism still exists. And what does the Civil War have to do w/ anything? Blacks were still treated badly after the war. Sure we were "freed" but not really. There were still many restrictions placed on blacks after the war.

Also the history of racial discrimination is one of the primary determinants of wealth distribution today. Blacks have been deprived of the legacy of wealth inheritance that Whites enjoy. How many Blacks have the good fortune to inherit a 100 plus year old business, a multi-million dollar estate or 500 acres of land etc. to be able to continue to build wealth for their families? We are in a race where Whites have a 300 year head start. That problem is always poo-pooed by Whites because they understand that this is where the real advantage comes from. Those that inherited all of the wealth are the job creators and who do you think they are naturally going to favor in hiring? People that look like them and with a similar pedigree. It's a cycle! So not only is there a wealth disparity but there is a power disparity as well and it all traces back to our racist roots. Professor Bell simply acknowledged those facts and stated the obvious, that it will always be that way because of the gross inequity of wealth.

Amen!...lol. But you're absolutely right. There's a huge lack of black-owned businesses in the US. Most black people are EMPLOYEES and not EMPLOYERS, so we have nothing to hand down to our children. And historically whites have not made it easy for blacks to own businesses. I feel like our world is changing for the better, but very slowly. Instead of teaching children to be employees (in h.s. one of my teachers explained to us how we were being taught to just be employees) all children, esp minority children, need to be taught how to be entrepreneurs and not worker bees.
